Human Services Counselor I

Your specific responsibilities:

  • Establish a trusting relationship with culturally diverse families by initiating and maintaining regular client contact.
  • Provide case management to pregnant women and infants referred to the Healthy Start Program.
  • Provide face to face contact with clients either in the OB provider's office or in the client's residence.
  • Provide parenting education one on one with clients.
  • Provide breastfeeding education and tobacco cessation education to individual clients.
  • Document all client contact information in the web-based computer application known as the Well Family System.
  • Provide referrals to community resources to supplement Healthy Start services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in counseling techniques and strategies.
  • Experience working with pregnant women and children.
  • Problem solving skills related to advancing client self-sufficiency.
  • Ability to work well with others as a team.
  • Computer skills: competency and experience.
  • Experience in interviewing and assessing to determine the needs of the client.
  • Knowledge of community resources.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum:
    • Valid Florida Driver's License
    • Associates degree in a Social Services field
    • At least 1 year experience working with high-risk pregnant women and/or families
    • Must have reliable and dependable transportation every day for home visitation purposes
  • Preferred:
    • 1 to 3 years of experience working with families
    • 1 to 3 years home visiting experience
    • 1 to 3 years case management experience
    • Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish
