Operations Engineer Position

We are launching people to the Moon and Mars. The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

Operations Engineer positions supporting Ground Electrical Systems or Flight Vehicle Electrical Systems. Generate work instructions for operations and maintenance associated with assigned subsystem. Execute standalone subsystem testing as well as participate in multi-discipline integrated testing. Troubleshoot non conformances and provide corrective actions for assigned subsystem. Candidates MUST have a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution. This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Internet browsers, and Outlook

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

• Highly motivated and a self-starter that can work in either a team environment or individually where much of the job is initially On the Job Training (OJT)

• Ability to Interpret written information and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

• Ability to Interpret engineering schematics, drawings, 3D CAD files, and technical specifications

• Ability to clearly and professionally present technical information to senior management and customer stakeholders

• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary

• Experience in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems is desired

• Experience with low-voltage AC and DC systems is desired

• Experience with temperature, pressure, strain, flow, and data-acquisition instrumentation is desired

• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems is desired

• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) PanelView displays, and related software development is desired

• Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs and RS Logix/Studio 5000 is desired

• Software development and control system knowledge is desirable for the Ground and Flight Application Software (GFAS) that monitors and controls system hardware

• Experience with RF transmission systems is desired

• Experience with C++ and/or UNIX/Linux environment is desired

Physical Requirements

• Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.

• Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.

• Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

• Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

• Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Work Environment

• Will be required to work inside and outside depending on the project.

• Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.

• Occasional work at heights and in confined spaces will be required.

• Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

• Position requires work at a hazardous processing and launch facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Equipment and Machines

• Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.

• Variety of equipment used in testing.

Attendance

• Full-time regular first shift work hours (typically 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM), Monday through Friday.

• Occasional overtime, off shift, and weekend work required to support program objectives and schedule.

• Must be dependable and punctual.

• Will be required to work inside and outside depending on the project.
