Coding Support Specialist

The Coding Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting daily operations within the Acute and Ambulatory Middle Revenue Cycle. This position focuses on key performance indicators such as DNFC, Pre-AR days, and Charge Lag days. The specialist assists in planning, coordinating, and executing both analytical and operational tasks related to revenue cycle projects. This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. We offer 4 weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of training will be aligned with your schedule.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Data analysis, process improvement, and organizational development
  • The role supports leadership initiatives and fosters effective communication across departments to enhance revenue cycle policies, practices, and technology platforms

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT) to be maintained annually
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 3+ years of facility/hospital coding experience
  • Experience in accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG systems for hospital coding
  • Experience with Microsoft Word (create correspondence and work within templates) and Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar management)
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data entry, sort / filter, and work within tables)
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to EPIC and Optum technology Enterprise CAC ideal
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of all areas of the revenue cycle. Detailed knowledge of HIM, Coding, including physician query processes, clinical chart reviews, deficiency analysis, scanning, coding, medical record correction processes, denials, and regulations governing HIM core functions

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Soft Skills:

  • Professional communication skills; both oral and written
  • Organizational skills, working effectively in a multi-task-based environment, and with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $28.27 - $50.48 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
