Operations Support Quality Assurance Manager

Job Summary:

A "hands-on" operations support quality assurance manager role responsible for managing and maintaining an established quality management system (QMS) based upon the requirements of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Policy NAP 401.1A. Will supervise the activities of two engineers and collaborate with project engineers and their production personnel to achieve their objectives while maintaining compliance. Responsible for records management, document control, calibration program, internal assessment program, training program and production nonconformances. Will be required to support material movement, inventory control, and receipt of incoming material. Serves as the Quality Management Representative interfacing with the Customer. Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals is key. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected to determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Experience performing in a quality assurance role in a regulated environment, e.g. DoE, DoD, FDA, etc. is crucial to be successful in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following. Other Duties May Be Assigned:

  • Assist production personnel with the completion of lot history records to ensure thorough identification and traceability of all product and processes. Validity, accuracy and management of records are vitally important to the QMS. Experience with good documentation practices (GDP) is a plus.
  • Maintain and administer internal assessment program to ensure compliance with the NNSA NAP 401.1A. Release and update the assessment schedule as required. Will be expected to execute internal assessments and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Direct the timely mitigation of production nonconformances when encountered, ensuring the minimization of production down time and the implementation of effective countermeasures when required. Management of nonconformance reports and on-going communication with the Customer.
  • Manage document control and configuration management processes. Support the organization throughout the end-to-end document release process. Experience using Arena or similar PLM software is essential for conducting document control and configuration management activities.
  • Oversee calibration program. Maintain calibration records, calibration stickers, and related documentation, and approved calibration service provider list. Responsible for generating work orders and the dispatch and receipt of metrology equipment to and from approved calibration service providers. Experience using COGZ or similar maintenance management software is a must.
  • Administer the internal training program for production, engineering and quality personnel including maintaining the training requirements matrix. Responsible for training records. May need to provide instructor-led training on quality related procedures, documentation and topics.
  • Receive purchased products or components and provide input to the decision to accept the product and future purchases from the Supplier. Assist with material movement and inventory control of Customer and Supplier provided product as required. Experience using CostPoint or similar ERP software is necessary for these executing these activities.
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality and operations support activities and presents recommendations to program management. Prepare reports to communicate involvement and results of quality activities, and present technical and program information to management, e.g. periodic updates on quality metrics including the annual Quality Management Review.
  • Serve as the Quality Management Representative interfacing with the Customer on all quality-related matters. Represent quality in production meetings with the Customer. Direct experience collaborating with Customers is critical to this role.
  • Experience working within a Quality Management System, e.g. ISO 9001, QS9000, ISO 13485, NAP 401.A, etc. is required. Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
  • Availability may include evenings and weekends when necessary to achieve goals and deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides supervisory and technical leadership to two engineers including fulfillment of lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately +/-10___%.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
