Senior Controls Engineer – Medical Device
To support our extraordinary team who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Senior Controls Engineer – Medical Device located in Buffalo Grove, IL or Austin, TX.
Reporting to the Director, Operations Engineering the Senior Controls Engineer – Medical Device is responsible for specifying, designing and maintaining automation equipment, tooling and applications as required to meet specifications.
What a typical day looks like:
- Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining control systems in manufacturing equipment.
- Build and design for standardized automation cells and for custom automated solutions from scratch for manufacturing.
- Designing, configuring, deploying, and maintaining PLC software and wiring.
- Programming controls for mechanical factory automation equipment (robots, machine vision, servos, pneumatics, etc.)
- Programming PLC's (Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, Omron, Etc.), HMI's, and Motion Controllers
- Electrical Design: Machine Power/Controls Design, Drafting, Communication Architecture
- Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when errors occur.
- Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.
- Work with vendors and plant maintenance to ensure all automation equipment has appropriate spare parts, and a robust PM / Maintenance plan.
- Perform the work listed in the standard operating procedures as well as work assigned by upper management.
- Communicate and interface with engineers, designers, and operations managers.
- Deploying systems at customer and Flex facilities and performing service work.
- Travel within the US, Mexico, and Europe up to 75%.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
- BS (and/or MS) Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent.
- 10+ years of relevant work experience from medical device manufacturer or pharmaceutical company.
- Knowledge and ability to research, evaluate, order install, maintain, or upgrade various types of equipment, tools, or tool sets.
- Design of fail-safe electrical circuits using both safety logic controllers and safety-rated relays.
- Robotics programming, at least one of these UR/ABB/Omron/Yamaha.
- PLC Structured Text, and/or Ladder logic programming and experience with software such as GXworks3, Studio 5000, TIA Portal, TwinCat3.
- Industrial HMI design and familiarity with HMI programs such as GTworks3, or FactoryTalk.
- Industrial software integration of mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, sensors, pneumatics/hydraulics, including how to safely checkout these interdisciplinary systems prior to production implementation.
- Ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software program to create schematics or drawings.
- Python experience a plus.
- Familiarity with IOT devices a plus.
- Proven understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, and improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing expansions and ramp up preferred.
- Experience in working with equipment suppliers and new tool bring up is a plus.
- Experience in a Medical device and disposable manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Experience in a Fluid filling and Drug Handling Automation is a Plus.
- Experience designing and implementing High Speed and High Accuracy mechanical Automation solutions is a plus.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in designs and specifications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once, prioritizing tasks based on deadlines and project importance.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations.
