Industrial Engineering Intern
To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, this summer, we're looking to add an Industrial Engineering Intern located in our Orangeburg, SC site.
Reporting to the Sr. Engineering and Business Excellence Manager, the student will support continuous improvement initiatives in our fulfillment and server assembly/testing operations in warehouse. This role offers hands-on experience in process optimization, data analysis, and lean manufacturing principles within a high-tech environment.
What a typical day looks like:
- Assist in analyzing and improving fulfillment workflows, including material flow, packaging, and shipping processes.
- Support assembly and testing operations for servers, focusing on cycle time reduction and quality improvement.
- Collect and analyze production data (HPU, throughput, takt time) to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions.
- Participate in layout design and optimization for assembly and test stations.
- Develop standard work instructions and contribute to process documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Production, Logistics) to implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Support time studies, ergonomic assessments, and capacity planning.
- Assist in KPI tracking and reporting for operational performance.
- All processes take place within a warehouse, managing the delivery chain and customizing the product until it reaches the final customer.
Student qualities we're seeking for this internship assignment:
- Junior/Senior (undergrad student), currently pursuing Industrial Engineering degree, or related major.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement principles.
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or similar data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Interest in hardware assembly and testing processes.
- Knowledge of process mapping and value stream analysis.
- Basic understanding of server hardware components.
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Arena, FlexSim) is a plus.
Internship Program Requirements:
- Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for 10-12 week summer assignment
- Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university
- 3.0 minimum GPA
