The Pioneering & Platform Integration (P&PI) team at Flagship Pioneering plays a critical role in advancing Flagship's mission to conceive, create, resource, and grow first-in-category life science companies. P&PI partners closely with platform companies and the broader Flagship ecosystem to ensure alignment across strategic priorities, portfolio development, and R&D governance. The Director/Senior Director, P&PI Strategy & Operations, co-owns the design and evolution of P&PI's operating model and portfolio management infrastructure in partnership with P&PI leaders. This role is responsible for shaping the frameworks, processes, and tools that support pipeline prioritization, portfolio clarity, and cross-functional execution within P&PI.

In addition to leading the strategy and performance of the Product & Partnering Review Committee (PPRC), this individual helps define how portfolio discussions are structured, how work is prioritized, and how outputs translate into coordinated execution. The role bridges strategy and operations—ensuring that portfolio frameworks are practical, governance forums are effective, and the broader P&PI body of work is organized and aligned.

Reporting to the COO, Product & Partnering, the Director/Senior Director manages the Associate Director, P&PI Strategy & Operations, and is accountable for both the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of P&PI's core processes and enabling systems.

The Director/Senior Director, P&PI Strategy & Operations, co-leads the design and refinement of P&PI's operating model in collaboration with P&PI leadership and the COO of Product & Partnering. This includes clarifying engagement models, decision rights, and interfaces across Product & Partnering functions to ensure that portfolio strategy and execution are supported by a clear and durable structure.

The role drives the strategy, structure, and effectiveness of the Product & Partnering Review Committee (PPRC). Responsibilities include defining objectives and meeting architecture, shaping decision outputs, clarifying expectations for materials and analysis, and ensuring that the forum evolves as portfolio needs change. The Director/Senior Director oversees operational execution through management of the Associate Director and intervenes when structural or process refinements are required.

The Director/Senior Director co-leads the development of pipeline and indications strategy frameworks, value frameworks, and related portfolio tools. This includes establishing consistent approaches to asset prioritization, defining stage-appropriate deliverables (including commercial and financial outputs), and supporting value pool mapping and portfolio visibility efforts. The role ensures that pipeline discussions are supported by clear analytical structures and consistent documentation.

The Director/Senior Director oversees management of the broader P&PI body of work, including initiative tracking, prioritization processes, and execution monitoring. They ensure transparency into commitments and progress, elevate emerging risks or bottlenecks, and support informed decision-making regarding sequencing and focus.

As appropriate and based on experience and portfolio needs, the Director/Senior Director may flex to support the development of pipeline and asset strategies. This may include co-developing strategy frameworks, structuring portfolio trade-off discussions, synthesizing competitive and portfolio insights, and preparing executive-ready materials for leadership decision-making. In these instances, the role contributes strategic perspective and analytical structure in partnership with Pipeline & Product Innovation leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in operations, portfolio management, or program governance within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a related R&D environment. Proven ability to manage governance workflows and cross-functional communications. Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills with keen attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to synthesize discussions into actionable summaries. Proficiency with collaboration and tracking tools (e.g., SharePoint, Smartsheet, Notion, Microsoft Office, AI-based productivity tools). Demonstrated ability to partner across scientific, operational, and leadership teams in a fast-paced, evolving environment. High degree of professionalism, discretion, and accountability.
