JOB PURPOSE: Leads a team, including managers, to define and implement the functional goals/requirements for a country or a sub region. PEOPLE & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: Recruits, develops, motivates and manages the team performance, including managers, and ensures that team members have the competencies, capabilities & tools to consistently deliver on individual and team objectives. Ensures effective succession planning within team.
PLANNING: Coordinates managers and teams across countries to validate, negotiate, consolidate and communicate goals. Validates and endorses functional initiatives for sub region or complex geographic areas to senior/executive management. Identifies and highlights key business critical trends/changes and developments within area of expertise and highlights for functional MD/VP.
PROCESSES & PROCEDURES: Leads the development processes and metrics to ensure optimal departmental performance. Coordinates the development, validation and communication of tools and processes for use by the wider business within area of expertise. Recommends improvements to processes as required. Ensures senior/executive management commitment to policies and procedures in order to protect company objectives, resources and assets.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Advises executive team on key functional area of expertise. Maintains and develops expert knowledge of relevant FedEx standards and external requirements (including regional/international regulations), and managerial remit, including good understanding of the internal and external business environment. Builds own and department capabilities to provide expert advice on complex or unique issues, which often includes exploring function specific opportunities for improvement and unique solutions.
RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: Leads department teams across a number of sub regions in conducting high quality, consistent analysis and functional planning, as required, which can be regional, divisional or corporate wide. Reviews and validates identified risks and opportunities relating to regional and divisional goals.
STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT: Proactively identifies and analyses business issues, opportunities and constraints related to area of expertise. Supports development of strategies that are optimally aligned with the divisional and corporate goals. Collaborates with and presents recommendations to stakeholders including regional and Corporate senior executives. Leads and sponsors the implementation to ensure results are realised.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Supports and drives regional/divisional initiatives and projects within functional remit in order to deliver planned results within time and budget within functional remit. Communicates project progress to senior management up to SVP level using adequate tools.
BUDGET MANAGEMENT: Prepares and submits an annual budget to senior management. Manages the departmental budget and takes appropriate actions in order to optimize costs and to remain within agreed parameters.
COMPLIANCE: Ensures assigned department activities are completed on time and effectively. This includes encouraging the identification of opportunities to improve department quality and productivity, such as developing more effective ways of working that are consistent with internal priorities, policies, external regulatory and legal requirements, while also assessing potential risks to the department, location, related projects or the wider business. Ensures full cooperation and support for internal and external audit processes as required (e.g. by external regulatory bodies).
ALIGNMENTS: Builds effective networks relationships within own department and with key stakeholders across the business in order to achieve optimal business outcomes. Maintains external alignments with customers, relevant subject matter experts (SMEs) or external bodies as required. Represents company in external organisations.
