Automation & Systems
Serves as a subject matter expert in system automation. Designs and supports specific material handling sortation systems, design specifications, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system integration for the most complex facilities. Analyzes vendor supplied equipment and leads testing of the most complex automated facilities.
Facilities & Material Handling Engineering
Serves as a subject matter expert in facilities and material handling equipment. Designs and supports the development of sites, buildings, offices, material handling systems, and sortation equipment for the most complex manual and automated sort facilities. Leads collaboration and makes recommendations to vendors and field maintenance departments on preventative and predictive maintenance efforts for material handling and automated sortation equipment.
Facilities & Material Handling Project Management
Plans, directs, controls, and implements engineering, construction, and start-up of FedEx sortation facilities and complex material handling systems. Manages and coordinates all activities to successfully meet the company's plans and targets on capacity-related projects.
Industrial Engineer & Process
Provides analysis, reporting tools, and engineering support for FedEx field operations to effectively control and/or justify operational costs. Leads the development of more effective metrics and tools.
Operations Research, Planning & Analysis
Serves as a subject matter expert on operation research and simulation technique. Develops and applies optimization, simulation, mathematical, statistical and data analytic techniques to research and develop tactical and strategic decision support system, network planning analysis, simulation models and solutions to improve company system performance, process, and network solutions.
Operations Technology
Researches, designs, develops, deploys, and/or supports new and current technology solutions to improve performance and reduce operating costs independently. Leads and participates on significant complex cross-functional project teams responsible for implementing new technology.
Facilities & Material Handling Procurement Engineering
Plans and directs engineering procurement on key material handling system commodities that requires specific technical knowledge to procure for FedEx sortation facilities and material handling systems. Acts as lead on procurement of new technology and works with other groups to implement in the field. Manages and coordinates contracts and activities with suppliers and integrators to successfully meet the company's plans and targets on capacity-related projects.
Operations Technology Security Engineering
Serves as subject matter expert on security of all OT devices in the FedEx Network. Interfaces with IT, InfoSec, and Network Services on all OT Security initiatives. Drives OT Security process and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Analyzes performance data within and outside of field of specialization. Evaluates and recommends procedures updates.
- Analyzes and documents major operational areas for improvement. Identifies opportunities for improvement and recommends a strategic solution.
- Researches and analyzes current state of technical or engineering information and predict future development opportunities. Creates strategic and tactical development plan and presents information to management.

- Participates in Control Self Monitoring (CSM) and/or Business Control Self-Assessment (BCSA) process within area of responsibility.

- Leads cross functional projects to develop efficient material handling systems and controls.
- Supports PLC based automated systems (Allen Bradley) and reviews electrical drawings and panel designs.
- Designs control systems and technical documents for automated facilities and hubs.
- Creates bid packages for vendors to use when submitting proposals.
- Evaluates sortation system operation; identifies and proposes material handling system improvements to increase capacity or improve efficiency of existing systems and processes.
- Evaluates new and emerging technology in machine control systems software and hardware for application in future projects.
- Provides engineering and technical expertise and support to vendors and facility maintenance staff in the resolution and prevention of control system problems and breakdowns. Facilities & Material Handling Engineering:
- Leads cross functional projects to develop more efficient material handling systems and facilities.
- Applies engineering expertise to maintain and develop new design standards.
- Designs material handling systems and technical documents for hubs and automated facilities (e.g., writes technical specifications, descriptions of operations, and cost estimates, creates equipment lists, and assembles final layout drawings).
- Creates bid packages for vendors to use when submitting proposals.
- Improves on-going preventative maintenance efforts for material handling system and makes recommendations for material handling system improvements.
- Provides engineering expertise and support to vendors and maintenance staff in the resolution and prevention of material handling system problems and breakdowns.
- Develops architecture, layout, and site designs of large scale facilities and hubs.
- Evaluates new and emerging building products and components for use in future designs.
- Ensures facility designs comply with applicable building codes and FedEx design standards and requirements. Facilities & Material Handling Project Management:
- Manages schedules, resources, and budgets on multiple facilities and material handling projects including, but not limited to, engineering design, scope of work, procurement, installation, start-up, training, maintenance, documentation, subcontracts, invoicing and all other project activities.
- Leads a project team of varying disciplines (e.g., Field, management, PGH, IT) to execute a project.
- Monitors and reports all aspects of a project consistent with the contract requirements.
- Establishes project control procedures to attain established financial goals.
- Develops contingency plans to mitigate schedule delays and budget increases for all projects.
- Manages most complex and highest impact projects or programs.
- Applies internal and external knowledge of specifications, plans, operations, and project management techniques.
- Consults and provides expertise to various projects and process improvement initiatives. Industrial Engineer & Process:
- Leads cross functional and/or cross operating company projects to perform root cause analysis on field metrics to enhance cost effectiveness in the field.
- Develops strategies to improve standard service days, monitor service performance and implement plans for improvement.
- Analyzes reports and data pertaining to field engineering performance (e.g., service performance, package quality, damage reduction, service performance, damage and loss claims).
- Monitors reports on field engineering performance and identifies variances and trends.
- Leads in the identification, creation, and documentation of business and/or technical requirements.
- Collaborates and trains district staff on proper engineering of stations and tools to improve effectiveness.
