Executive - Valuations - Financial Services, London

At EY, we're all in to shape your future with confidence. We'll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go. Join EY and help to build a better working world.

The opportunity: At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax, and corporate finance delivers real-world value – solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY's full spectrum of services, we've reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity, and governments every step of the way.

Our Financial Services (FS) sector focused Valuations and Decision Modelling (V&DM) team, part of EY-Parthenon, works with FS clients across insurance, banking, capital markets, and the wealth and asset management sectors. We advise our clients on a range of complex matters across M&A transactions, strategic corporate finance, financial reporting, tax, and operational purposes. There is a market opportunity to grow our services to clients in the insurance and banking sectors, and we are seeking to hire an experienced valuation specialist with insurance and/or banking sector experience to join us and help drive this growth.

Your key responsibilities: As an Executive within the FS V&DM team, you will produce high quality valuation analyses and insightful valuation reports for a wide variety of insurance and/or banking clients, ranging from global corporations to fast growth InsureTech/FinTech businesses, as well as central banks and regulators. Typical projects include the valuations of business segments and private companies, financial instruments including debt instruments, asset portfolios, intangible assets, incentive shares, and structured derivatives. You will over time develop a deep understanding of the strategic, commercial, technological, and regulatory issues faced by our clients.

You would work in diverse teams alongside colleagues with a range of professional backgrounds and experiences, each of whom bring unique ideas and perspectives to the team. A typical project would involve working with our offshore teams, and often with cross-service line and cross-border colleagues. You would be expected to communicate confidently with senior colleagues and clients, contributing to the development of client relationships over the course of a project and beyond, as well as ongoing business development and team initiatives like formal training sessions.

Skills and attributes for success: We require highly motivated candidates with strong numerical skills/technical knowledge, project management skills, and a demonstrable interest and experience in valuation and financial services, as well as a commercial mindset, who are logical thinkers and have excellent attention to detail. We would welcome candidates with the following attributes:

  • Over two years of experience in a professional services firm, investment bank, private equity, consultancy, corporate finance group, or corporate development role, with demonstrable valuation experience.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of core valuation methodologies such as Discounted Cash Flow analysis, Dividend Discount Models, and the use of valuation multiples from comparable companies and transactions.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of corporate finance, and familiarity with illiquid equity and debt/fixed income instruments issued by companies.
  • Experience of serving clients in the insurance and banking sectors, with an appreciation of the key issues faced by our clients and a detailed understanding of how these sectors work, including the impacts of regulatory capital requirements.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or another highly numerate science.
  • Strong quantitative and Excel skills, preferably within a valuation context.
  • Ability to play a key role in projects, including excellent verbal and written communication with clients and key stakeholders, model building, and preparing deliverables under demanding timelines.
  • Further ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize workload and self-review work, with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player with experience working in a high performing team.

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • CFA / ACA / ACCA / FMVA or similar financial qualification.
  • Understanding of IFRS 17 / IFRS 9 / IFRS 13 and other relevant accounting standards relating to the measurement of insurance contracts, financial instruments, and derivatives.
  • Knowledge of VBA or other programming languages, including Python, would be an advantage.

What we look for: Candidates who are passionate about developing their career as a valuation advisor to the insurance and banking sectors, and particularly within the context of transactions. You are highly motivated and ambitious, a numerate, logical thinker, and have an intellectual curiosity about valuation. A strong communicator, team player, and relationship builder, you thrive on change and have a mindset open towards continuous learning and development.

What we offer you: We will fuel your ambition and potential with future focused skills development that equips you with state-of-the-art methodologies and technology enabled solutions. With more than 25,000 people in 150 countries, you will join an inclusive and empowering culture that values your uniqueness, prioritizes your wellbeing, and immerses you in the diverse thinking and cross-cultural experiences necessary to help deliver impact to clients across the globe and to help build a better working world.
