Power Electronics Engineer
Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to work with our client, at Belfast. In this role the successful candidate will be working alongside a team of multi-disciplined Engineer working on cutting edge defence products. Your role will span the entire product life-cycle from design requirements capture and analysis through to defining the power architecture and designing, building, testing and verifying that the solution meets the customer’s needs. The Power Electronics role requires working within the Electronics team to optimise the design through trade-studies, analyses, modelling and simulation to produce best-in-class competitive products.
We are looking for an energetic and driven individual with broad expertise, however of particular interest would be candidates with aerospace or military experience.

Responsibilities
- Developing electrical power architectures to meet design requirements
- Leading in the design and prototype of power electronics circuits
- Using simulation tools to produce models of electronic and electrical power systems
- Leading component and sub-system selection and manage evaluation activities
- Define testing, validation and debug of component and circuit assemblies
- Support to integration testing
- Creation of power electronics specifications, development and verification plans
- Responsible for compliance to regulatory standards
- Contribute to bid and estimating activities
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline. A lower qualification would be acceptable for example HNC/HND should the candidate be able to demonstrate significant demonstrable experience in lieu
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of vehicular electrical power systems and distribution, including:
- 600 VDC
- Single phase 240 VAC
- Three phase 400 VAC
- A solid understanding of thermal management techniques
- Proficient in simulation tools such as LTSpice, with experience in modelling converters
- Understanding of principles for design for LVD & EMC Compliance
- Highly effective communicator within a diverse, professional environment
- Self-motivated, able to lead and take the initiative
- Outstanding team working skills
Experience
- 7 years post graduate relevant work experience
- Experience with selection and evaluation of MOTs AD-DC and DC-DC convertors
- Significant relevant experience of SMPS design
- Vehicle battery systems experience utilising lead acid or lithium batteries
- Experience of power filter design and implementation
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for power electronics and safety certifications
- Experience with specifications, development and verification plans
- Experience of mentoring and coaching others
