Electrical Test Operations Engineer - Ait

As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector we are looking for an Electrical Test Operations Engineer - AIT. The role will be based at our customer's facility in Stevenage and the candidate should be prepared to work shift when required (for which a premium will be paid) and travel within the UK and Europe in support of test campaigns.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation. The successful candidate will be engaged in executing electrical and functional test procedures on engineering test benches and flight spacecraft in accordance with work orders, test procedures and processes. Preparing electrical test set-up, making electrical measurements and executing functional tests on the spacecraft in the cleanroom. Preparing test reports and supporting test reviews.

Engineers with energy and drive with broad expertise are ideal, however of particular interest would be candidates with space, aerospace, high tech manufacturing or communications experience.

Responsibilities

  • Execution of electrical and functional test procedures on engineering test benches and flight spacecraft
  • Use of the Central Checkout System (CCS), Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and Spacecraft Check Out Equipment (SCOE) to support the test activities. Typically test racks housing a mix of generic & bespoke test equipment
  • Validation of test-aids, break out boxes, cables etc.
  • Minor test procedure updates, raising work orders, test reports and other test documentation
  • Supporting electrical integration, automated and manual tests at unit, subsystem & system level
  • Spacecraft electrical test and support during environmental test and launch activities
  • Work to company and departmental procedures and standards

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an HNC or NVQ Level 4 in an Electrical Engineering related discipline or relevant experience in a similar role

Essential Skills

  • Competent in the use of various test equipment used for electrical and RF measurements, e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, signal generator, current probes, Data acquisition unit, signal generator, power meter, network analyser, data bus monitors etc.
  • Computer skills for executing test procedures and moving results on the central checkout system.
  • Familiar with the Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Awareness of 'cleanroom' disciplines

Desired Skills

  • Experience in using a Digital Design and Manufacturing System (DDMS) to raise work order, plans etc. would be beneficial
  • Spacecraft electrical and harness knowledge would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Basic knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and awareness would be beneficial, but are not essential. e.g. Data Handling, Packet Utilisation Standards, Data Bus Communications – 1553, SpaceWire, Attitude &, Orbital Control, Star Trackers, Gyros, Momentum Wheels, Power systems, batteries, Solar Arrays, Thermal Control, heaters, thermostats, etc.

Experience

  • Electrical integration of equipment on a test bench or spacecraft
  • Use of a wide range of electrical test equipment and test racks
  • Executing test sequences/scripts on a test bench or spacecraft from a Central Checkout System (CCS) including making minor updates to these
  • Electrical fault investigation and test debug
  • Environmental and launch test campaigns
  • Updating test procedures, writing work orders/plans and test reports and supporting test and non-conformance reviews

  • SC cleared without caveats
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the clients Stevenage site 5 days per week
  • Ability/willingness to support shift working when required (for which an applicable shift premium is payable)
  • Ability/willingness to travel as needed to support test campaigns both in the UK and Europe
