We are looking for a dedicated Engineering Manager to join our team in Armenia!

About the role:

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who combines strong technical leadership with people and delivery ownership. This role is not just a senior developer. As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for technical direction, team execution, and engineering quality, while ensuring alignment with Product and business goals. You will balance hands-on development with technical leadership, design decisions, reviews, mentoring, planning, and ownership.

What You'll Get to Do:

Technical Leadership

  • Own the technical architecture and design of your domain/team
  • Review system designs, APIs, data models, and non-functional requirements
  • Ensure code quality through code reviews, standards, and best practices
  • Make technical trade-off decisions (speed vs quality, short-term vs long-term)
  • Act as the first technical escalation point before issues go to the Architect /CTO
  • Ensure production readiness: observability, logging, error handling, scalability.

Delivery & Execution

  • Own delivery commitments of the team (scope, quality, timelines)
  • Break down product requirements into technical tasks with clear estimations
  • Actively participate in planning, grooming, and retrospectives
  • Identify risks early and communicate them clearly
  • Ensure technical debt is tracked and addressed intentionally.

People Management & Mentorship

  • Mentor developers (junior → mid → senior growth)
  • Set clear technical expectations and hold the team accountable
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback
  • Be an example in discipline, communication, ownership, and engineering ethics
  • Create a psychologically safe environment for discussion and disagreement.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Managers to clarify requirements and constraints
  • Translate business goals into technical strategy
  • Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
  • Align team priorities with company-level objectives.

What We're Looking For:

Technical:

  • Strong experience as a Senior Software Engineer
  • Hands-on experience with PHP and MySQL in production environments
  • Proven experience working with legacy codebases, including understanding and stabilizing existing systems, refactoring and improving code quality incrementally, reducing technical debt without breaking production
  • Proven ability to design and own medium to large systems
  • Solid understanding of backend systems & APIs, databases and data modelling, performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Experience with code reviews and architectural decision-making.

Leadership:

  • Experience leading engineers (formally or informally)
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to give clear, direct, constructive feedback
  • Comfortable saying "no" when needed and defending decisions with facts.

  • Team delivers predictably with fewer surprises
  • Engineers grow in skill and ownership
  • Legacy systems become more stable and maintainable over time
  • Codebase improves continuously instead of degrading
  • CTO and Architect is not pulled into daily execution issues
