Senior Engineering Leader
Senior engineering leader for a high-volume, multi-product payments division within a SaaS company. Reports to the CTO; sits on or adjacent to the executive leadership team.
Core Qualifications
Experience
- 10–15 years in software engineering, with at least 4–6 years in engineering leadership at the director level or above
- Direct experience owning a payment gateway or payment processing platform at scale — ideally $5B+ in annual transaction volume
- Background in multi-product SaaS environments, particularly vertical SaaS or embedded payments
Technical Depth
- Hands-on background in payments infrastructure: gateway architecture, ACH processing, credit card networks, settlement, reconciliation
- Deep integration experience with major payment processors (Stripe, Worldpay, Braintree, Adyen, or equivalents)
- Strong cloud engineering foundation (AWS/GCP/Azure); comfort with distributed, high-availability systems designed for transaction peak loads
- Security-first engineering mindset with understanding of encryption, tokenization, and fraud surface area
Compliance & Regulatory
- Must have personally led or co-led PCI DSS certification (Level 1 preferred) and recurring audits
- SOC 2 Type II ownership strongly preferred
- Familiarity with NACHA operating rules for ACH; SOX and/or HIPAA exposure a plus
- Track record of audit cycles with clean findings
Leadership Profile
Team Scale
- Has managed cross-functional engineering orgs of 25–50+ people including software engineers, QA, DevOps/cloud, and possibly security
- Experience managing distributed or nearshore teams — Colombia, LATAM, or Eastern Europe exposure a strong differentiator
Organizational Influence
- Operates comfortably as a peer to product, operations, and compliance leaders — not just a delivery executor
- Can translate technical strategy into business outcomes; fluent in budget ownership ($3–5M+ opex) and ROI framing
- Has contributed to executive-level strategic decisions, not just carried them out
Delivery & Operations
- Demonstrated ability to run high-performing teams with strong engineering fundamentals: code quality, CI/CD, observability, incident response
- Experience with M&A integration or multi-product platform consolidation is a plus given the EverCommerce context
Where: Remote, US (periodic travel required)
The EverCommerce team is distributed globally, with teams in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Jordan, New Zealand, and Australia. With a widely distributed team, we are used to working remotely across different time zones. This role can be based anywhere in the United States – if you're close to one of our offices, we can set you up in-office or you can work 100% remotely. Please note that you must be eligible to work without sponsorship to qualify for this position, and this role may require travel to our Corporate Headquarters in Denver, Colorado, or to other office locations around North America.

Compensation: The target base compensation for this position is $200,000 to $230,000 USD per year with a variable component in most US locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including location, local market variances, and candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
