Design Engineer

We're seeking a skilled Design Engineer to join our Customer and Commercial division. In this role, you'll plan and perform professional engineering work, applying sound judgement and initiative to deliver high-quality electrical designs. You'll be responsible for designing electrical layouts, systems, and infrastructure for substations that support the safe and efficient distribution of electricity. You'll also collaborate across teams to leverage emerging tools and technologies, ensuring excellent user experiences that align with Intium's business objectives.

You're a proactive and innovative engineer with a passion for delivering high-quality technical solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy mentoring junior engineers, and are committed to continuous professional development. You bring a strong customer focus, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple complex tasks.

You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex design concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You're highly organized, adaptable, and able to balance design aspirations with technical and business constraints. Your negotiation and influencing skills help you build effective relationships across all levels. You embrace continuous improvement and are comfortable working with emerging technologies.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor of Engineering meeting Engineers Australia or Washington Accord standards
• Current driver's licence
• WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
• Maintenance of all required regulatory, industry, and business licenses and authorizations

Desired experience:

• Strong knowledge of HV and secondary systems design, particularly for renewable energy connection assets
• Technical expertise in electrical power systems, including circuit breakers, transformers, and protection relays
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory
• Experience in electrical vehicle charging infrastructure design
• Practical experience in design and construction
• Skilled in feasibility assessments, compliance audits, quality inspections, and detailed design
• Extensive knowledge of Australian and International Standards and Codes of Practice
• Familiarity with relevant legislation and policies for design and specification preparation
• Ability to direct and review project designs with external consultants
