Principal - Electrical Engineering
We have an opportunity for a highly experienced Electrical Engineer to lead our Electrical Engineering function in Edinburgh. With a strong focus on grid-connected systems, you will drive the development & delivery of all electrical aspects of our advanced electromechanical hardware devices.
ENODA's world-class team are building the first truly decentralized, intelligent energy system that will reshape how we generate, store, and distribute energy. Foundational to our holistic and integrated platform approach, the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger, is first-of-a-kind dynamic power flow hardware designed to maintain "on-target" frequency and voltage, increasing grid efficiency and capacity for distributed energy sources like renewables and EVs. Enoda ENSEMBLE™ is our ecosystem co-ordinator of ENODA and third-party assets, able to forecast, aggregate, and bid capacity in real time, functioning as a networked "operating system" for the electrical grid. This is more than simply managing electricity flow. It is about creating the foundational system to prepare for a radically more capable, prosperous, and intelligent future.
You'll Spend Your Time:
- Holding responsibility for the design and development of electrical systems, architecture and hardware, for grid-connected and distributed energy systems
- Developing conceptual and detailed designs based on functional requirements, insulation coordination, regulatory standards, and grid codes
- Specifying and integrating medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, including windings, busbars, sensor and signal cables, protection equipment and other ancillary equipment.
- Owning and executing analysis and reports for electrical fields, short-circuit currents, isolation and earthing, load flow, fault analysis, magnetic design, thermal management and protection coordination
- Commissioning & executing assembly instructions with the manufacturing/assembly teams
- Managing change requests, designing control workflows for all electrical design aspects
- Defining and owning the standard testing and commissioning documentation across the product lines
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver electrical solutions optimised for grid compliance, efficiency, and reliability
- Leading a high-performing team of electrical design engineers, providing mentorship and technical direction
- Working closely with suppliers, OEMs, and academic partners on innovation and delivery
The Key Experience We're Looking For:
- Expert knowledge and experience designing and implementing electrical systems involving inverters, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
- High levels of proficiency in electrical CAD and other design tools
- Proficiency in electrical modelling and simulation (e.g., load-flow and dynamic simulation, electric fields, EMTP)
- Knowledge of renewable technologies (solar, wind, storage), and how they interact with modern grid infrastructure
- Familiarity with relevant compliance and safety standards (EU and UK laws, IEC, IEEE standards, etc.)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive technical teams and deliver high-quality engineering outcomes
- A collaborative approach and comfort working across interdisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments
- The following would be advantageous:
- An understanding of factory, site testing of grid-connected design, including utility practices and connection requirements
- Matlab/Simulink and real-time control
- IEC/IEEE/ANSI/UL standards for transformers, switchgear and power converters
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve field or prototype issues and use of tools such as power analysers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers
- Medium voltage training and certification, high power testing
What We Offer:
- £85,000 - circa £100,000 depending on experience
- Private Medical Insurance
- Flexible Pension policy tailored to your requirements
- 33 days annual leave + Holiday purchase/sell scheme
- Dental cash-back scheme
- Cycle-to-Work scheme
- Season travel ticket loan
- Enhanced company sick pay & Income Protection
