AEMS Applications Engineer

As part of our growing System Operations team the AEMS Applications Engineer plays a key role in keeping ENMAX's real-time grid systems safe, secure, and reliable. This position focuses on maintaining and optimizing the Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS), Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other critical grid applications. Joining this expanding group means being part of an exciting area of growth and contributing directly to grid reliability for the community we serve.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain the AEMS suite and advanced applications therein for Transmission Operations.
  • Ensure advanced applications are running optimally to support real-time grid monitoring and control.
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for SCADA, AEMS, and related applications.
  • Provide training and support to Control Room Operators, Engineers, and analysts.
  • Configure, and maintain the AEMS and its interfaces to inter-connected control systems and corporate systems.
  • Liaise with multiple ENMAX Power Company functional groups to ensure the timely and accurate transfer of data between the Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) and inter-connected systems.
  • Plan the reliable, orderly, and secure development of power utility automation systems, including preparation of business cases for system improvements.
  • Liaise with the Security Specialist on the development and enhancement of automation security systems meeting applicable industry standards.
  • Prepare System Operating Procedures for safe operation and maintenance the AEMS and associated systems.
  • Provide after-hours duties as part of the on-call roster.

Education required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA in the province of Alberta.

Qualifications & experience:

  • 2+ years of experience with an Industrial Operations support team, electrical utility, or engineering consulting firm.
  • Direct experience in one or more of the following areas is required: Outage Management Systems; Distribution Management Systems; SCADA Master Systems; Geographic Information Systems; Power systems electrical modeling software; Geospatial Transformation and Load software, or Industrial Control Systems. Benefit if the experience is with the General Electric Vernova (GEV) product suite (Eterra and GridOS).
  • Well-developed programming and system troubleshooting skills.
  • Direct experience with Windows operating system deployment and server management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Collaborative, "team player" attitude.

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid work model that includes Core Days in office (Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays), and more time to focus on Mondays and Fridays, either in the office or at home. The office workspace is located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB).
