Guidance, Navigation, And Control Engineer

We are EnduroSat! A fast-growing space scale-up at the forefront of satellite innovation, specializing in advanced software-flexible satellites for commercial, governmental, and scientific endeavors.

This is more than a job, it’s a mission. We are making space universally accessible and redefining the possible.

We get things done. We take ownership of what we do and we work hard to make a difference.

We are fearless. Transparency is our only way forward. We dare to address and resolve issues head-on.

We learn from our mistakes. We deliver, take informed risks, and evolve to achieve our goals. We compare with the best version of ourselves.

What Is The Role?

As a skilled guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) engineer you will join our AOCS team where you will play a crucial role in the GNC design, modeling, and analysis for our range of spacecraft and upcoming missions.

Some of your daily tasks will include:

  • ADCS Configuration Management: Develop and maintain ADCS configurations to ensure alignment with mission objectives. Customize and optimize off-the-shelf ADCS components to meet specific mission requirements. Work closely with system engineers, AOCS and data handling teams to validate configurations and integrate them into the overall satellite architecture.
  • Component Selection: Identify and evaluate off-the-shelf ADCS components to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Coordinate with suppliers to procure the necessary ADCS components with the mission-specific configuration.
  • AOCS Simulations And Mission Analysis: Conduct AOCS simulations to support proposals and mission case studies. Perform AOCS mission analysis to optimize spacecraft operations and mission planning. Analyze simulation and analysis results to enhance decision-making and mission strategy. Collaborate with mission operators to tailor simulations and analyses to specific mission scenarios and objectives.
  • Mission Requirements Tracing And Verification: Trace mission requirements to ensure all elements align with the defined project goals. Utilize simulations to verify that mission requirements are met and validate overall system performance. Document and report on the verification process, highlighting any discrepancies and recommended actions.
  • Participation In Mission AOCS Design: Participate in the design of AOCS for missions with stringent requirements, ensuring high precision and reliability. Engage in collaborative design sessions with stakeholders to address specific challenges and constraints. Develop innovative solutions to meet demanding AOCS performance criteria for complex missions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration And Customer Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for all ADCS requirements within the project teams, including mission operators and AIT team. Clarify EnduroSat's AOCS design with the customer, ensuring alignment with their mission objectives and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Quality Assurance And Testing: Assist in the development and execution of test plans for ADCS components to verify performance against specifications. Troubleshoot and address any issues that arise during testing and integration phases.
  • Documentation And Compliance: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of ADCS configurations, simulations, and analyses. Ensure all ADCS activities comply with industry standards and company policies.

What Do We Look For?

  • Degree in aerospace, controls/robotics, electrical engineering, applied physics, or similar
  • 3+ years hands-on ADCS/AOCS experience on nanosats/smallsats, including integrating off-the-shelf ADCS components
  • Proven ADCS configuration management
  • Experience running AOCS simulations and mission analyses for proposals and flight missions (pointing/stability/jitter, slew profiles, momentum/desaturation, disturbance environments, Monte Carlo)
  • Component selection and vendor coordination
  • Requirements flowdown and verification
  • Integration and test experience: HIL/SIL, sensor calibration and alignment, actuator characterization, troubleshooting during AIT
  • Cross-functional collaboration and customer-facing communication
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python for modeling, analysis, and tooling; familiarity with STK/GMAT/FreeFlyer or Orekit
  • Comfort with ICDs, telemetry/telecommand dictionaries, and common buses (I2C/SPI/CAN)
  • Practical use of configuration/requirements tools: Git, Jira/Confluence

How To Stand Out:

  • Delivered, commissioned, and operated ADCS on-orbit; resolved anomalies and tuned for performance; produced verification/performance reports
  • Deep experience customizing and tuning off-the-shelf ADCS and integrating into mixed-vendor stacks
  • Strong supplier management: clear technical specs, acceptance criteria, factory calibration requirements, and FAT/SAT witnessing
  • Advanced simulation capability: Basilisk/Orekit integrations, covariance analysis, high-fidelity environment models; real-time/HIL with flight processor and star tracker/wheel simulators
  • Expertise in calibration/alignment and performance drivers
  • FDIR and reliability focus: DFMEA/FMECA for ADCS, safe-mode design, fault injection testing, risk tracking and closure
  • Comprehensive test experience: TVAC/vibe/EMI performance verification; use of Helmholtz cages, air-bearing tables, rate tables, and sun simulators
  • Strong tooling mindset: reusable Python/MATLAB libraries, telemetry analysis dashboards, and documentation templates that scale across missions
