Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing.

What You Will Do:

1. Safe and efficient execution of operations work including pipeline repairs and maintenance, valve work, construction inspection, customer and distribution station maintenance, meter work, appliance light-ups and relights, utilization inspections and infractions and other duties as required.
2. Perform natural gas emergency response activities including line-breaks, leak and odour investigations, liaise with fire and police officials, TSSA Inspectors and others as required.
3. Interact with external customers, maintaining a positive and professional manner that builds the Company image.
4. Promote distribution system protection and damage prevention awareness including third party observation activities.
5. Perform high quality work in accordance with company standards and procedures.
6. Will be required to wear and maintain company uniforms.
7. Participate on Standby rotation as required, and shift work may be required.

Who You Are:

• High School education or equivalent and show an active interest in Utility Service work and be able to learn from experienced team members.
• Able to obtain and maintain a Gas Utility Technician (Utility Technician) Certificate and a Pipeline Inspector's Certificate as established by the TSSA for natural gas distribution utilities within the required timeframe.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Currently hold and retain appropriate driver’s license and maintain satisfactory driving record.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn related company software.
• Must meet criteria for response while on standby and be prepared to work shifts as required.
• Must be physically capable to perform strenuous manual labour, be able to wear all appropriate safety equipment.

Preferred:

• 5 years directly relevant training and experience.

Working Conditions:

• Requires motor co-ordination and manual dexterity to dig ground to expose gas lines and repair damaged pipes, and to locate escaping gas using gas-detecting devices.
• Work involves handling loads between 10 kg and 20 kg by pulling, pushing, lifting or carrying.
• Work involves body postures including standing and/or walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
• Worker is exposed to variations in weather conditions and seasonal weather patterns; work is also performed indoors in a regulated environment, indoors in an unregulated environment, or in a vehicle.
• Worker is required to use equipment, instruments, machinery or power/hand tools.
• Travel by road is required daily and in various driving/road conditions.
