We are looking for a Fluidics Engineering Intern who is curious, loves to learn, and wants to make an impact on cutting-edge projects. Our program has multiple elements to ensure that you have a well-rounded internship experience helping the Fluidics team by taking ownership of a portion of a large-scale project, utilize their expertise to address real-world issues, and gain valuable industrial experience while contributing to the development of an exceptional sequencing product. This internship will also provide opportunities to develop soft-skills as well as meet with Leaders across the organization to learn about their careers and gain insights on how to navigate your early career decisions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to design, develop, and optimize fluidic devices that will aid next-generation sequencing technologies
  • Design breadboards, prototype, and control fluidic critical components at both the modular and integrated system level
  • Plan and execute experiments; collect data, validate hypotheses, and evaluate fluidic performance using characterization tools, with close mentorship from a senior fluidics engineer
  • Apply foundational knowledge of fluid mechanics, microfluidics, and experimental/simulation methods to troubleshoot and resolve real-world engineering challenges
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience and deepen your understanding of fluidic hardware, instrument development, and biotech R&D workflows
  • Communicate findings clearly through organized data, presentations, or informal technical discussions

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled Senior-level Undergraduate or Graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Bioengineering, Physics, or a related department
  • Good understanding of fluid mechanics, mechanics, electronics, and optics is preferred
  • Device characterization experience, including fluidic hardware development with pumps and valves, instrument/device prototyping, or other microfluidic/biofluidic/optofluidic applications, is preferred
  • Understanding of statistics and experience using programming tools such as Python, JMP, or MATLAB is required
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Experience publishing papers or presenting at conferences is a plus
