Service Delivery Manager

We are seeking a pragmatic, community-focused Service Delivery Manager to own and coordinate key services. Reporting to the Director of IT, you will lead structured, cross-functional delivery across IT, Infrastructure, Security, Community Programs, and other internal teams to scale our capacity in support of global open source collaboration. As the operational owner for critical services used by millions of community members, including Open VSX, you will be responsible for both evolving and operating these platforms. This includes leading their transformation towards 24/7 availability, high availability (HA), redundancy, and strong security practices, alongside planning, uptime, incident response, roadmap execution, and long-term sustainability. You will manage vendor and contractor relationships where applicable, contribute to technology strategy and budget planning, and drive continuous improvements in how we build and operate services. This role is central to achieving our mission to empower developers, enable collaboration, and ensure user freedoms by delivering services that are secure, resilient, and aligned with the strategic goals of the organisation.

This is a remote position. Candidates based in Europe are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the full-lifecycle owner for Open VSX and other Eclipse Foundation-hosted services, accountable for availability, incident response, service scaling, and roadmap execution
• Act as the coordination point across IT/Infrastructure, Security, Community Program, and other teams as needed to ensure unified and consistent delivery
• Own delivery priorities, operational stability, and risk mitigation of assigned services
• Maintain a visible and responsive presence for internal and external stakeholders on service health, roadmap, and performance

• Lead daily service operations, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, change planning, and postmortems
• Identify and address operational risks and technical debt through sustainable, forward-looking improvements
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors or contractors to ensure infrastructure reliability and support coverage
• Implement tools and processes that support observability, automation, and operational maturity

• Build security into service architecture and operations, including access controls, telemetry, auditability, and rate limiting
• Partner with the Security team to implement and uphold organisational policies and secure-by-design practices
• Promote security and reliability as shared and continuous priorities across the service stack

• Coordinate structured delivery of key initiatives through planning, scope definition, communication, and cross-functional execution
• Drive the planning and delivery of architectural and operational improvements that enable services to scale towards 24/7 uptime, high availability (HA), redundancy, and best-in-class security
• Track and communicate deliverables, timelines, risks, and dependencies to sponsors and stakeholders
• Define and report on service KPIs, SLAs, and operational health indicators
• Provide strategic advice to leadership on platform operations and technology decisions
• Contribute to annual planning cycles by informing resource needs, tooling requirements, and infrastructure budgeting

Desired Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform operations, or service delivery roles
• Strong background in cloud infrastructure (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD systems, observability tools, and incident response practices
• Proven ability to manage cross-functional coordination across IT, security, and program teams
• Practical, hands-on approach with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills with comfort working in remote-first and distributed environments
• Experience managing contractors or vendor partners for delivery or support work
• Open source experience is a nice-to-have
