Huge Impact Opportunity

This role works within BCE, reporting to the Senior Director of the organization. As Sr. Manager, Engineering Excellence you will help raise the bar on eBay's engineering practice through ensuring the engineering teams are operating effectively and enabled across the product lifecycle. We require a creative, inspiring and driven team member who will build the structure and rigor to ensure that dozens of engineering teams are effective and healthy. You'll help eBay deliver software faster, while steadily improving quality and reliability metrics. You will be a strong voice for Lean, DevOps, and other industry best practices, by training leaders, engineers, and others to integrate these practices at eBay. This position requires a deep understanding of Lean and DevOps, knowledge of product life cycle, ability to influence, agile execution and a strong internal sense of the appropriate bar for production metrics - while maintaining a strategic outlook on where the organization is trying to go.

Responsibilities:

  • Help drive software velocity and quality improvements across all of eBay engineering
  • Identify gaps in ways of working AND metrics, create proposals, execute on them, track and risk manage the execution, synthesize data to create conclusions, present to execute leadership, and repeat the cycle to continuously improve the organization.
  • Be a thought leader for the organization and sharpen strategy by partnering with other engineering leaders to elevate the overall organization.
  • Drive operational excellence by getting deep into the day to day of how an engineering team runs, mentor and guide them, enabling successful delivery of projects.
  • Define the vision, strategy, engagement plan, and execution to elevate eBay's product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate effectively with business, product development, and engineering teams across multiple domains and multiple geographies. Understand their needs, and work with them to propose solutions to help enable them.
  • Capture and then drive improvements in key metrics around velocity and quality.
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve eBay's product life cycle practices across the organization, ensuring the highest level of integrity and transparency.
  • Influence and drive improvements to the product development practices throughout eBay

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree (Masters preferred) with 12+ years proven experience in technical program management or product development lifecycle management, with deep understanding of Lean and devOps.
  • Highly proficient in program management and collaboration tools, with strong process orientation as well as business acumen and communication skills.
  • Crucial leadership skills to direct the operations of a project unit to ensure set goals are achieved. Ability to balance strategic focus with tactical implementation/execution; proficient in analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with collaboration, planning and project management tools (e.g. JIRA, Portfolio, Confluence, dashboarding with queries and rich filters).
  • Deep knowledge of product lifecycle management, agile execution and have experience working in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience in leading teams that deliver high quality, complex software from global locations to a global customer base.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • Practical expert and thought leader with keen business acumen.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$210,400 - $280,900

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
