Power Electronics And Power Systems Applications Developer

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the overall development of power electronics and power systems applications, as well as technologies in digital design for power electronics components. He/she should be capable of executing system, sub-system, and component-level plant modeling (mathematical analysis) for the design and development of various Eaton products in the domain of power electronics.

Responsibilities will include devising methods based on machine learning to complement physics-based approaches for the rapid development of power electronics components and controls. These methods encompass both data-driven and physics-driven design optimization techniques, such as generative design and topology optimization.

The candidate will collaborate with global teams, understand design intent, and develop and validate models to substantiate the designs of various systems, sub-systems, and components. They will provide technical information and engineering recommendations for projects and processes, and execute complex engineering tasks independently and in collaboration with cross-functional disciplines.

Strong internal and external communication skills are critical to success in this role. Additional responsibilities include collaboration with ERL, Software, DERMS, and the Power Conversion team for strategy development in power electronics, system-level solutions development, and engagement with product and extended teams to understand product requirements, CTQs (Critical to Quality), and identify potential products and applications to advance Eaton's digital design strategy.

Develops simulation models of power systems or power electronics systems/ sub-systems/ components using MATLAB SIMULINK/PLECS. Analyzes & optimizes designs through plant (mathematical) model and control development. Works on SIL/HIL simulations for validation of firmware, control algorithms and drives. Develops Python scripts for automation of model simulations and hosts the digital models on servers/PC/Hardware. Delivers deep insights through system modeling and simulations for robust product development to meet all performance requirements/ CTQs. Partners with global teams, understands the design intent, develops and validates models to substantiate the designs of various components & systems. Performs project engineering work independently; communicates expectations, plan and requirements; also coordinates all work within the scope of assigned projects. Provides technical information and engineering recommendations for improvement of product designs and associated processes. Ensures on time delivery and quality performance results in all work deliveries. Participates in internal open innovation events with businesses & other research groups, Provides novel solutions/concepts (complementing with Innovation Disclosures & Patents, Technical papers) to strengthen and drive innovation. Strong analytical skills, strong verbal & written communication skills and proven team player. Serves as a technical lead and/or project lead for capability development for power electronics and power systems using physics based and ML based methods. Understanding system level power electrical requirements and selecting components to meet specific requirements. Establish connect with external standard commercial software providers to seek support and solutions pertaining to PEPS simulations. Contributes to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs. Develops as a subject matter expert through relevant trainings and participation in relevant industry events - network and stay contemporary on topics in their field.

Qualifications:

MTech/MS - Power Electronics/ Power Electronics and Power Systems/ Control Systems 7+ years industrial experience working with power electronics and power system/controls solutions development (system or component level)

Skills:

Developing simulation models (MATLAB/PLECS) of Power Electronics Sub-system/ components for power distribution systems with strong engineering fundamentals. Strong knowledge of Plant and control model development with a clear understanding of model in loop development. Python scripting knowledge for model hosting/automation/report generation and SIL/HIL validations is preferable. AI/ML model development experience and knowledge on forecasting algorithms desirable. Self-motivated; Passionate to bring own ideas to applications. Networking ability across organization to understand critical business problems that require simulation based solutions. Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Good interpersonal skills - flexibility to adapt to persons with different geographical, ethnic, educational backgrounds. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills while handling multiple projects
