Our mission is to see vehicles become a thousand times smarter, safer, and more connected to the world around us. In 2019, we joined forces with Honda as their first startup acquisition, and now we're expanding our vision into building the future of electric vehicles (BEV) for millions of people around the world.
Join Drivemode for an exciting startup environment and a vibrant culture that combines impactful work, competitive compensation, and excellent benefits. By becoming a part of our team, you'll contribute to a crucial mission that revolutionizes the way people engage with vehicles, addressing both business needs and the world's environmental challenges. This presents an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation and drive Honda's success in the EV market.
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong software engineering background. You are someone who views infrastructure as a product and applies rigorous engineering principles to everything you build. In this role, you will be a key driver of our infrastructure's evolution through meaningful hands-on contributions and direct influence on our developer platform architecture. You will own the launch and expansion of our internal tooling platforms and lead the professionalization of our hybrid cloud and on-premise environments. This is a high-impact position designed for a senior contributor who has the technical depth to manage distributed systems and the ambition to eventually lead our DevOps and Platform initiatives.
What you will do:
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Automations Development: Partner deeply with our Backend, Mobile (Android/iOS) and IVI teams (embedded/AAOS). You will help bridge the gap between their unique build requirements and the underlying infrastructure. This includes hands-on work to establish and optimize CI/CD pipelines for different targets (backend services, mobile apps, and in-vehicle software).
Internal Platform Engineering: Lead the design and deployment of our internal platforms. You will build the frameworks that enable our engineering and data teams to deploy, monitor, and scale their tools with minimal friction.
Hybrid Infrastructure Evolution: Architect the professionalization of our distributed infrastructure. You will work to standardize and containerize workloads across both public cloud providers and on-premise hardware.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Maintain a strict "Everything as Code" philosophy. You will ensure that all environments—cloud-based or physical—are versioned, automated, and easily reproducible.
Security & Quality Guardrails: Integrate and automate SAST/SCA (Static Analysis/Software Composition Analysis) tools directly into the developer workflow to ensure "security by design."
System Reliability & Observability: Collaborate with the Backend team to establish robust monitoring and alerting standards. You will provide the platform and tooling necessary to ensure high availability across our entire stack.
Strategic Leadership: Proactively identify architectural debt and propose long-term solutions. You will help set the roadmap for the team's growth and technical standards.
What we are looking for:
Extensive DevOps experience: 5+ years of experience as a DevOps or as a combination with Software Development experience
Software Engineering Maturity: High proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Go). You apply clean code principles, modularity, and testing to your infrastructure automation.
Kubernetes Fluency: Deep experience with Kubernetes. You understand cluster orchestration, networking, and security at a fundamental level.
Linux Foundations: You are a power user with a deep understanding of Linux and system administration—critical for managing our on-premise nodes.
IaC Experience: Proven experience managing production environments using Terraform (or similar tools) across varied providers and environments.
Cloud Experience: Comfortable navigating the complexities of hybrid environments, including the integration of on-premise hardware with cloud-native services.
Leadership Ambition: You have the communication skills to influence engineering culture and the drive to take on more leadership responsibilities as the team scales.
Nice to have:
Previous Experience as a Developer: Having spent time as a software engineer is a significant advantage; it provides the perspective needed to build a truly great developer experience.
AOSP Experience: Experience building or customizing the Android Open Source Project.
Japanese Language Ability: Helpful for coordinating with local stakeholders and vendors.
