Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Systems and Software Engineering in Canberra to work on joint projects.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

• Systems/Software Engineering Expertise: Experience in planning, specification, design, and documentation across multiple program phases, including Defence/CASG environments.
• Risk & Integration Management: Skilled in identifying, managing, and mitigating technical and integration risks within complex projects.
• Testing & Evaluation: Applying testing and evaluation techniques across the system development life cycle to ensure quality outcomes.
• Communication & Documentation: Strong formal/informal communication skills with advanced technical writing to support Government approvals and stakeholder engagement.
• Continuous Improvement & Adaptability: Demonstrated initiative in maintaining skills, staying current with industry developments, and working effectively in complex stakeholder systems.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics/computers/communications/networking or similar) ideal.
• Comprehensive understanding in engineering of complex Defence systems.
• Understanding of Defence processes and structure.
• Understanding of the One Defence Capability System (formerly the Capability Life Cycle).

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
