General Manager - Engineering Consulting

Due to ongoing growth within our Rail & Transit Systems business we are seeking to appoint an experienced General Manager - Engineering Consulting who will be responsible for the promotion of the newly formed Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) which enables external clients to engage and utilise Downer RTS staff as required for their needs.

The General Manager is responsible for the generation, co-ordination and execution of engineering consulting engagements both internal and external to Engineering & Technology (E&T) / Rail & Transit Systems. The General Manager will work with other General Managers in E&T to identify and deploy a team of qualified Discipline Managers and design/assurance engineers that provide engineering services to Bidding, Project delivery, Through Life Support and to external clients as required.

About you:

• Minimum 15 years relevant experience in Rail in rollingstock, assurance or equivalent Transit Systems.
• Minimum 10 years consulting experience in the rail industry working on projects in Victoria, NSW and QLD as minimum and holding key roles on such projects
• Experienced in managing large teams of Engineers, Designers and associated specialists.
• Be Registered or working towards becoming Registered on the National Engineering Register and membership of a relevant professional institution, such as Engineers Australia.

In the role:

• Leads the Discipline Management group to drive change, resolve conflicts, address issues, and ensure decisions are made.
• Work with Growth division to influence new and existing clients to work with Downer
• Discovers and meets underlying needs of stakeholders
• Actively participate in project reviews to ensure technical service delivery is meeting the requirements
• Manage forecast for technical services supply and demand and make recommendations for staff Capacity and Capability
