Design Engineer
Working within the Tararua Alliance – a strategic partnership between the Tararua District Council and Downer – this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Design Engineer to contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects across the Tararua District. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative alliance environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality, fit-for-purpose infrastructure solutions that support local communities. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide design engineering solutions to the Tararua Alliance.
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, your day to day will include the following:
- Contribute to the development of project scopes and briefs alongside Project Managers
- Supporting the wider engineering and delivery teams to ensure efficient delivery of engineering solutions
- Providing surveying and drafting support while ensuring best use of available finance, human and physical resources
- Working closely with customers and physical works staff to identify design/build opportunities
- Participate in site investigations, surveys, and geotechnical investigations to inform design solutions
To be successful in the role, you will bring with you:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering or other relevant civil engineering qualification
- Experience using road design software
- A sound understanding of AUSTROADS design standards
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- A proactive approach to risk identification and programme management
