Engineering Project Intern

The role: As the project intern, you will be responsible for the execution of research oriented tasks, supporting the discovery of new control system methods for thermal transfer printers. You will apply research and engineering skills to identify, characterise, compare, select different control strategies, present pros and cons to stakeholders and prepare reports so that the knowledge can be passed on.

What you will do:

  1. Propose concepts for new ribbon drive control methods
  2. Implement the concepts, building electronics + writing software yourself, or integrating from open-source libraries
  3. Capture data required for assessing system performance
  4. Demonstrate the concepts on real hardware to stakeholders
  5. Document all investigative and test activity in an electronic logbook

What you need to have:

  1. BSc or MSc in Computer/Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering.
  2. Control system expertise for real time embedded control and instrumentation
  3. Hardware in the loop design, simulation and automation
  4. Multi-sensor fusion and integration
  5. Hardware integration
  6. Independence/advanced skills in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++ development on real-time hardware (Arm preferred)
  7. Excellent presentation and communication skills
  8. Excellent self-motivation and time management skills – you will have significant autonomy in this project
  9. Excellent statistics and data analysis skills
  10. Data driven optimisation and predictive modelling
