We are looking for a dedicated individual to function as a cashier and/or stocker and act in a lead capacity in the absence of the store manager or assistant store manager. The role involves assisting in setting and maintaining plan-o-grams and programs, providing exemplary customer service, and performing other duties as necessary to maximize profitability, customer satisfaction, and teamwork, while protecting company assets and reducing losses.
Duties and responsibilities include unloading trucks, following company work processes to receive, open, and unpack cartons and totes, stocking merchandise, rotating and facing merchandise on shelves, building merchandise displays, restocking returned and recovered merchandise, ordering zones and drop shipment categories, assisting in plan-o-gram implementation and maintenance, assisting customers by locating merchandise, bailing cardboard, taking out trash, dusting and mopping store floors, cleaning restrooms and stockrooms, greeting customers, maintaining register countertops and bags, operating cash register and flatbed scanner, collecting payment from customers, making change, cleaning the front end of the store, helping set up sidewalk displays, maintaining a clean and well-organized store, facilitating a safe and secure working and shopping environment, providing superior customer service leadership, following company policies and procedures, opening and/or closing the store, authorizing and signing for refunds and overrides, counting register, making bank deposits, assisting in maintaining strict cashier accountability, key control, and adherence to company security practices and cash control procedures, monitoring cash levels, making appropriate drawer pulls as directed, monitoring cameras for unusual activities, supplying cashiers with change when needed, and completing all required paperwork and documentation.
Qualifications required include the ability to perform mathematical calculations, knowledge of cash handling procedures, ability to perform IBM cash register functions, knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices, effective interpersonal and oral & written communication skills, understanding of safety policies and practices, and ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance. High school diploma or equivalent and six months of supervisory experience (or related experience/training) is preferred. Working conditions involve frequent walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, frequent handling of merchandise and equipment, frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds, occasional climbing, fast-paced environment, moderate noise level, occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
