Function as a cashier and/or stocker and act in a lead capacity in the absence of the store manager or assistant store manager. Assist in setting and maintaining plan-o-grams and programs. Provide exemplary customer service. Perform other duties as necessary to maximize profitability, customer satisfaction, and teamwork, while protecting company assets and reducing losses.
Duties and essential job functions include: unloading trucks, following company work processes to receive, open and unpack cartons and totes, stocking merchandise, rotating and facing merchandise on shelves, building merchandise displays, restocking returned and recovered merchandise, ordering zones and drop shipment categories, assisting in plan-o-gram implementation, assisting customers by locating merchandise, bailing cardboard and taking out trash, dusting and mopping store floors, cleaning restroom and stockroom, greeting customers, maintaining register countertops, operating cash register and flatbed scanner, bagging merchandise, collecting payment from customer, making change, cleaning front end of store, helping set up sidewalk displays, maintaining a clean, well-organized store, facilitating a safe and secure working and shopping environment, providing superior customer service leadership, following company policies and procedures, opening and/or closing the store, authorizing and signing for refunds and overrides, counting register, making bank deposits, assisting in maintaining strict cashier accountability, key control, and adherence to company security practices and cash control procedures, monitoring cash levels, making appropriate drawer pulls, monitoring cameras for unusual activities, supplying cashiers with change, and completing all required paperwork and documentation.
Knowledge of mathematical calculations, cash handling procedures, IBM cash register functions, cash, facility and safety control policies and practices, interpersonal and oral & written communication skills, and safety policies and practices. Work experience and/or education: high school diploma or equivalent and six months of supervisory experience (or related experience/training) preferred.
Working conditions include frequent walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, frequent handling of merchandise and equipment, frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds, occasional climbing, fast-paced environment, moderate noise level, occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings and travel to other Dollar General stores.
