Dollar General Cashier/Stocker

This position functions as a cashier and/or stocker and acts in a lead capacity in the absence of the store manager or assistant store manager. The role involves assisting in setting and maintaining plan-o-grams and programs, providing exemplary customer service, and performing other duties to maximize profitability, customer satisfaction, and teamwork while protecting company assets and reducing losses.

Duties and essential job functions include unloading trucks, following company work processes to receive, open, and unpack cartons, stocking merchandise, restocking returned and recovered merchandise, ordering zones and drop shipment categories, assisting in plan-o-gram implementation, assisting customers, maintaining store cleanliness, and providing superior customer service leadership. The role also requires following company policies and procedures, opening and closing the store, authorizing and signing for refunds, counting register, making bank deposits, maintaining cashier accountability, and monitoring cash levels.

Qualifications include the ability to perform mathematical calculations, knowledge of cash handling procedures, IBM cash register functions, cash, facility, and safety control policies, effective communication skills, understanding of safety policies, and ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance. Preferred experience includes a high school diploma, six months of supervisory experience, or related experience/training.

Working conditions involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling; handling merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds; climbing up to six feet; fast-paced environment; moderate noise level; occasional exposure to outside weather; and occasional or regular driving to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
