What You Will Do As A Flat Knifer:
- Insert rule into die boards using automated rule bending machines and hand-finish bending as needed
- Use pneumatic and hand tools to shape and secure knives into dies
- Secure knives by pounding them into place with a rawhide mallet
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail throughout die-making processes
- Learn and apply trade-specific skills to produce high-quality dies (not routine assembly work)
What You Need To Be A Flat Knifer:
- Ability to perform repetitive hammering and upper body work for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50–80 pounds regularly with or without reasonable accommodations
- Strong attention to detail and precision in craftsmanship
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in a specialized trade
- Comfortable working with pneumatic and hand tools in a production environment
