At Dev Technology Group the Chief Technologist office supports activities across the organization bringing emergent to government technologies to our clients and work in meaningful ways. The office supports traditional service delivery to government clients and research and development activities. This highly matrixed position is based at our Reston, Virginia headquarters and reports to the Technical Director for AI and Machine Learning.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Principal AI and Machine Learning Engineer, you will be a senior technical leader responsible for architecting, designing, and delivering advanced AI/ML capabilities for our federal customers in the Homeland Security, Defense, and Law Enforcement sectors. Your work will directly contribute to solving complex challenges and enhancing national security.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participating in the technical vision and strategic roadmap for AI/ML and data analytics initiatives across the company and their implementation for our government partners.
- Leading the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of sophisticated machine learning models, including in areas such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, predictive analytics, and the application of generative AI models and frameworks.
- Architecting and overseeing the implementation of robust data pipelines and MLOps frameworks on cloud platforms like AWS and Azure.
- Serving as the primary technical expert in AI/ML, collaborating with program managers, government stakeholders, and development teams to translate mission requirements into scalable, secure, and effective solutions.
- Providing mentorship and technical guidance to a team of engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Evaluating and integrating emerging AI/ML technologies and tools to ensure Dev Technology remains at the forefront of innovation.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- A Master's or Ph.D.
- A minimum of 9 years of professional experience in data analysis and engineering, with at least 5 years focused on hands-on development of AI and machine learning systems.
- Demonstrated experience architecting, building, and delivering data and AI pipelines.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and extensive experience with common machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Proven experience designing and implementing AI/ML solutions on cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a government security clearance.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- An active security clearance (e.g., Secret, Top Secret).
- Experience supporting federal government contracts, particularly within DHS, DoD, or DOJ.
- Expert understanding of government use cases and applications of machine learning and AI, especially emergent and generative AI.
