Team Leader, Construction Services

The team leader, construction services ensures the quality of service delivery within their established service sector at a major construction program site. The incumbent ensures compliance with the policies and procedures of the service sector and manages risks associated with contracts. The incumbent leads a team of professionals and manages the human resources for the team. They also manage relationships with partner clients. The incumbent also assists in developing innovative solutions and ensures the team focuses on collaboration, quality of deliverables, and timely presentation.

Key activities and periodic tasks include:

  • Supervising a team managing construction, professional services, and service contracts to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, as well as Defence Construction Canada's policies and market management processes.
  • Resolving complex issues within delegated authority.
  • Facilitating coordination and communication among stakeholders (e.g., contractors, consultants, partner clients).
  • Promoting and managing opportunities for business expansion.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships within Defence Construction Canada, industry, partner clients, and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring adherence to quality standards as per the Corporation and partner client expectations.
  • Managing risks.
  • Performing human resource functions (e.g., leadership, supervision, mentoring, resource planning and allocation, and performance management).

Other tasks include:

  • Participating in activity planning.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Knowledge, general and specific:

  • Best practices, methods, trends, and legislation in construction, architecture, and engineering.
  • Best practices and trends in financial management and human resource management.
  • Procurement mechanisms.
  • Project management, contract management, and risk management principles.
  • Health and safety management.

Education/certification(s) and experience:

  • Minimum requirement: a college diploma in engineering, architecture, or a related field, and six years of relevant experience, or equivalent.

Skills:

  • Using appropriate software and operating systems.
  • Applying project management, contract management, and risk management techniques.
  • Demonstrating leadership and human resource management skills.

Leadership and direction:

  • Directing and managing direct subordinates.
  • Providing functional guidance and advice to other employees and partner clients.

Work conditions:

  • Typical office environment; occasional travel.
  • The incumbent may be required to work on construction sites, in which case they may occasionally be required to wear basic safety equipment.

Location: North Bay, Ontario
