Field Service & Applications Specialist – Ndola, Zambia

Position Summary
The Field Service & Applications Specialist will deliver in-field technical and applications support to Cepheid customers in Zambia. The role covers system installation, training, integration, troubleshooting, and customer care, with a strong emphasis on building customer relationships and supporting business growth in Southern Africa.
This is a field-based role in Ndola, Zambia, requiring up to 80% on-site presence with customers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Service
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Cepheid systems on customer sites.
- Support laboratories with system integration, workflow optimization, evaluation, and validation processes.
- Provide customer training on instruments, software, reagents, and connectivity solutions.
- Document activities in SFDC, ensuring compliance with complaint-handling and reporting standards.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and de-installations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Manage spare parts inventory and car stock to ensure smooth field service operations.
- Build and maintain excellent customer relationships, driving high levels of satisfaction and loyalty.
Applications & Commercial Support
- Partner with Sales to develop and execute account strategies to accelerate adoption of Cepheid solutions.
- Support demand generation, new assay adoption, and test menu expansion.
- Conduct technical presentations, demonstrations, and workshops for customers and stakeholders.
- Provide market intelligence and customer insights to commercial and product teams.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Deliver effective customer and staff training programs.
- Stay current with new product launches, assays, and connectivity updates.
- Share best practices, field learnings, and customer insights across the regional team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Engineering, or related field. Diploma with strong diagnostic experience considered. Molecular Biology expertise preferred.
- Experience: At least 3 years as a Medical Technologist with strong experience in diagnostics or laboratory settings. Hands-on experience with lab automation, molecular diagnostics, microbiology techniques, and LIS/connectivity systems. Proven experience in field service, technical support, and applications training for clinical diagnostics. Experience engaging with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and driving lead generation. Familiarity with healthcare and diagnostics in Africa is an advantage.

Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Zambia and occasionally within Southern Africa.
- Flexibility to work after hours and weekends as needed.
