Energy Plant Technician

DFW Airport is seeking a dedicated Energy Plant Technician to join our Energy & Utilities Services team! This role is vital to ensuring continuous delivery of cooling, heating, and other essential utility systems across one of the world's largest airports. The ideal candidate will bring technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the drive to grow in a dynamic, high-performance environment.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with the startup, operation, and shutdown of mechanical, electrical, and energy production systems, including gas/oil-fired boilers, chillers, generators, pumps, and switchgear.
  • Monitor and operate district cooling and heating systems, potable water and reclaimed water pump stations, sanitary and stormwater systems, and electrical systems up to 25kV.
  • Conduct routine inspections to detect equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective action.
  • Support the operation of computer control consoles to monitor systems, respond to alarms, and take corrective action.
  • Perform chemical testing on boiler feedwater, chilled and hot water, and potable water systems to ensure quality control.
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and shift briefings to document operational data and system performance.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, repairs, and light facility upkeep in the Energy Plaza.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Affairs Department to support compliance and environmental stewardship initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of industrial power plant operations, maintenance, or related experience (high-pressure boilers, chilled water/HVAC, electrical distribution, or water treatment systems); or formal training in industrial trades (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Welding, Pipefitting, or Millwright).
  • Must pass a medical physical examination.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Key Skills and Expertise

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude in operating or maintaining chillers, pumps, and industrial systems.
  • Understanding of industrial safety practices and hazard precautions.
  • Ability to analyze alarms, monitor system performance, and take corrective action using computer control systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic networking principles.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced, technical environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
