Project Engineer

Responsible for the project management of projects throughout all Hamilton Branch trades. This role will co-ordinate with all stakeholders and have a bias towards mechanical technical ability.

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing all trades-related projects within the Hamilton branch, with a focus on mechanical HVAC systems. This role combines technical expertise with project management capabilities to ensure successful delivery across all phases of the project lifecycle—from planning and budgeting to execution and stakeholder engagement.

Project Financials & Cost Management

  • Review requisitions, change orders, payment applications, and invoices.
  • Develop and maintain accurate cost-to-complete reconciliations.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial targets.
  • Provide frequent updates on financial performance, including actual vs. budget reporting.
  • Manage material procurement and ensure cost control aligned with schedules and cashflow.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Support site staff in identifying requirements, estimating costs, and preparing schedules.
  • Create and collaborate on project schedules and programs.
  • Develop site-specific safety plans and safe work method statements.
  • Assist in consultant and contractor selection and contracting processes.
  • Liaise with clients before and during project delivery; prepare and deliver update reports.
  • Issue regular internal status reports on work progress.
  • Obtain approvals for organizational changes and expenditures beyond budget.

Onsite Support & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical support to onsite teams, particularly in HVAC systems.
  • Assist in resolving onsite issues promptly.
  • Manage logistics for owned and hired equipment.
  • Lead toolbox meetings focused on health and safety.

Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including pre-qualification, insurance compliance, and H&S performance.
  • Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and client-side project managers.

  • Internal: Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Branch Manager, Estimators, Service Managers, Trade Supervisors, Health & Safety Team
  • External: Clients, Client Project Managers, Tenants and Site Operators, Vendors, Client Health & Safety Managers, Engineers and Consultants

Qualifications & Experience

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance
