On Site Service Technician - Level II
We are looking for a talented On Site Service Technician - Level II to join our team specializing in Service for our Parts and Aftermarket Department in Kitwe, Zambia.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Deliver Expert Technical Support: Act as the go-to specialist for diagnosing and completing less complex repairs on Cummins products, ensuring reliability and performance for the customer.
- Enhance Customer Experience: Engage with customers professionally and courteously, building trust and maintaining strong relationships through responsive and efficient service.
- Ensure Operational Efficiency: Anticipate customer needs and provide timely solutions, minimizing downtime and improving productivity at the customer's site.
- Apply Precision and Compliance: Use specialized tools and follow documented procedures to guarantee accurate repairs and adherence to company standards and policies.
- Empower Customer Teams: Coach customer employees on preventative maintenance and basic repairs, enabling them to maintain equipment effectively and reduce future issues.
- Facilitate Issue Resolution: Escalate unresolved or complex problems promptly to senior technicians or supervisors, ensuring quick and effective solutions.
- Maintain Quality and Accountability: Complete all required documentation accurately, including service worksheets, timesheets, and warranty claims, supporting transparency and compliance.
- Promote Safety and Sustainability: Uphold Health, Safety & Environmental standards, maintain a clean and organized work area, and report any incidents to protect people and assets.
External Qualifications and Competencies
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Strong Diagnostic Skills: Ability to translate customer complaints into actionable troubleshooting plans, use guided workflows, specialized tools, and diagnostic software to accurately identify and resolve issues.
- Technical Expertise in Repairs: Proficiency in repairing and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems, including engines and power generators, while following guidelines and using the correct tools to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Effective Problem Escalation and Documentation: Skill in escalating complex issues promptly, leveraging available resources, and capturing all troubleshooting steps in business systems for seamless communication and accurate historical tracking.
- Systems Interaction Knowledge: Understanding of how internal and external systems (electrical, mechanical, exhaust, cooling, fuel, sensors, etc.) interact, and ability to interpret service publications and measurements to diagnose and repair effectively.
Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position
Education/ Experience:
- Apprentice Certified Power Generation or Engine Technician (Preferred)
- Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution
- Current relevant electrical certification (optional)
- Locally valid driving permit
- Basic level field service work experience
- Intermediate level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation or engine products
- High Voltage/ Low Voltage experience (optional)
- Customer service experience
