Job Summary: Apply and expand knowledge of systems engineering processes and skills to systematically convert customer needs into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Responsible for systems engineering planning, scheduling, and execution of requirements analysis, system design, analyses and trade studies, hardware/software design oversight, requirements verification, system integration, and system level test. Works on tasking of moderate scope and complexity. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will exercise discretionary decision-making authority within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works on one or more projects within the Advanced Training Solutions (ATS) portfolio under general direction of the Systems Engineering Manager and project's lead engineer.
  • Estimate, plan, schedule, and execute systems engineering activities
  • Responsible for the creation of system-level requirement, design, integration and test documentation for review by experienced team members
  • Allocate system requirements to subsystems and oversee development/refinement of lower-level requirements
  • Develop and manage the system requirements in the requirements database and performs monthly analysis to confirm requirement volatility and flowdown
  • Define operational concepts
  • Perform analyses and trade studies as necessary to aid in the selection of system concepts
  • Support the project team by defining and documenting the system architecture and design for review by internal and external stakeholders
  • Support developing hardware and software designs to ensure compliance with requirements and system design
  • Support project risk management activities
  • Develop productive working relationships with customers, vendors, and other project members
  • Regularly participates in Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings with customers and subcontractors
  • Active participant and presenter during gate reviews and CAT1 and CAT2 project deliverables
  • Support hardware/software integration planning and oversee activities
  • Support system level test planning and oversee test implementation
  • Perform technical risk management activities
  • Support project risk management activities
  • May occasionally provide support on proposal activities
  • May coordinate or conduct integration and formal system tests
  • May provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior systems engineering personnel
  • Performs other systems engineering duties as required to meet contractual requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Four-year college degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline, plus two years of related experience, or an applicable master's degree.
  • Basic knowledge of all standard software products (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project), plus system engineering specific tools (e.g. DOORS, Cameo/SysML, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Experience in creating, analyzing and documenting system and subsystem requirements and designs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; interface with customers, subcontractors and vendors; and deal with employees and managers at all levels in engineering, manufacturing and other departments.
  • Must be able to work independently and also coordinate with other engineering disciplines to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Attention to detail and mental ability to perform engineering problem solving and analytical tasks.
  • Must be able to work under project deadlines and associated cost and schedule constraints.
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance, if necessary.
