Senior Engineering Manager

As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn't changed — we're here to stop breaches, and we've redefined modern security with the world's most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We're also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We're always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

CrowdStrike is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for our Policy Management team. This critical role will be responsible for driving the evolution of the cloud-side software and user interfaces that provide configuration and settings information to the Falcon endpoint agent. Nearly every module of the Falcon platform offers customer-manageable configuration options, and changes to these options are distributed to the endpoint fleet within minutes. As a hands-on technical leader, you'll drive technical strategy and roadmap execution while maintaining world-class service quality and supporting the architectural direction laid out by the engineering team. You'll be instrumental in team growth through hiring, retention, and development in our remote-first, high-trust environment.

You will work cross functionally with your peers in the engineering organization: engineering management, product management, program management, support, and others, to ensure your product's success. We are a remote first company so you must bring your excellent verbal and written communication skills to bear when you are working with your engineering teams and cross functional teams across the globe.

This position will be responsible for managing a team of software engineers. This includes:

  • Prioritizing work and managing team workload, project resourcing & coordination, including saying "no" and "not yet" when appropriate
  • Keeping the team on track and finding ways to adjust when surprises happen
  • Detailed participation in code and design reviews, providing technical guidance and feedback to team members.
  • Gathering and communicating status about how and what the team is doing
  • Communicating and coordinating with other teams, from individual contributors to executives
  • Triaging customer support and user tickets and building a relationship with those teams
  • Collaborating with senior engineers and product management to shape roadmap and technical strategy
  • Balancing concrete and immediate use cases with longer term technical strategy
  • Helping resolve interpersonal conflicts
  • Coaching engineers and guiding their career growth via frequent feedback
  • Hiring, interviewing, and occasionally sourcing candidates

Engineering Managers at Crowdstrike are hands-on technical leaders. We don't expect Engineering Managers to write code on the critical path to shipping features, but you will need to be able to make sense of the team's PRs. You'll need to develop in-depth knowledge of our system architecture, data flows, APIs, test processes, and dependencies, so that you can reason about our team's work, understand and explain its impact on other teams, and to assist in troubleshooting. Some travel will be required, primarily to the United States, for in-person meetings. This will likely be 2-3 times per year.

What You'll Need:

  • Prior experience as a manager of software development teams, coupled with prior experience as a software developer.
  • Comprehensive background in distributed systems development and scaling.
  • Experience with building and shipping high-quality software in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Solid design and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated passion for engineering excellence, quality, security, and performance, coupled with a desire to ship elegant solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong cross-group collaboration and interpersonal communication skills working with a variety of roles including engineering, product management, support, and sales engineering.
  • Demonstrated track record of mentoring and coaching engineers.
  • Experience working with remote teams and individuals while maintaining agility and velocity, and helping the team members grow and succeed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across the org, from executive staff to engineers.
  • Experience in microservice development using Golang, Java, C#, and/or similar technologies.
  • Ability to travel (primarily to the United States) 2-3x per year.
  • Both a sense of humor and a sense of humility.

Bonus Points:

  • Prior experience managing configuration automation for large endpoint fleets (for example, Microsoft Configuration Manager, JAMF Pro, ChromeoOS device management)
  • Prior experience with building, operating, and scaling low-latency internet services.
  • Exposure to/experience with cybersecurity and intelligence.

Benefits of Working at CrowdStrike:

  • Remote-friendly and flexible work culture
  • Market leader in compensation and equity awards
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs
  • Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role
  • Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to build connections
  • Vibrant office culture with world class amenities
  • Great Place to Work Certified™ across the globe
