Job Description

This is an in-office (5 days/week) position located in the Salt Lake City metro area (South Jordan). All candidates must live in Salt Lake or be willing to relocate before starting. Candidates who are currently living outside of the United States will not be considered.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role requires a strong technical background in mechanical engineering and proven project management skills to lead complex engineering projects from concept to completion. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering innovative solutions while managing cross-functional teams, timelines, and budgets.

Essential Duties:

1. Mechanical Engineering & Technical Design
   • Develop concepts and ideas for new products or methods to improve existing products.
   • Design mechanisms, drive systems, sheet metal, plastic housings, and components in support of new products.
   • Use engineering principles to develop the structural design of products by incorporating mechanical and electrical subsystems to meet industrial design, marketing, and customer requirements to meet project schedules.
   • Specify materials and components in the designs.
   • Perform testing of designs to prove functionality and reliability.
   • Generate design specifications and drawings for external design and manufacturing activities.
   • Apply statistical methods such as process capability studies and DOE's in the development and improvement of products.
2. Project Management & Execution
   • Develop cost estimates based on product concepts or designs.
   • Manage multiple design projects at once. Work independently with little or no direction. Keep management informed and apprised of design.
   • Develop schedules for part and product development.
   • Proactively identify risks and develop and execute risk reduction measures.
   • Problem solve: identify root cause, verify the root cause, and implement both corrective and preventative actions to resolve problems.
   • Work with design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product ramps leading up to production.
3. Collaboration, Leadership & Cross-Functional Work
   • Work with other functional groups (marketing, sales, customer service, etc.) within the company to develop and evaluate designs that meet customer needs.
   • Present and participate in design reviews and update designs as required.
   • Keep apprised of the customer experience related to company products.
   • Mentor other engineers throughout the design cycle.
   • Work closely with and direct the international contract engineering team.
     • Position requires regular travel to China/Malaysia (could be 6+ trips/year).
     • When in Utah, position requires flexibility for regular evening calls with overseas team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 2+ Years of applicable experience

Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities:

• Experience designing consumer based products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices or similar.
• Experience working with overseas teams in person and remotely, describing technical processes verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in the use of 3D CAD (CREO preferred)
• Interest in and an aptitude for robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, mechanism design, etc.
• Experienced in injection molded plastics design, tooling best practices and process tuning.
• Familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
• Familiar with rapid prototype techniques and processes
• Proficient in the application of GD&T.
• Effective communicator.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Required:

• Currently live inside the United States of America
• Must live in Salt Lake City, Utah or be willing to relocate before starting
• Be willing and able to work in office 5 days/week
• Be able to work legally in the US for any employer
• Be willing and able to travel regularly to Asia (China, Malaysia) several times a year
