System Engineer

Credence has an immediate need for a System Engineer to provide engineering level support for the engineering and sustainment of navigation systems and sensors installed on USCG afloat assets.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To The Duties Listed Below

The System Engineer shall provide expertise in the areas of Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) process and shipboard systems integration support for a myriad of electronic navigation systems and sensors. Manage, coordinate, supervise, support, or perform project and technical writing activities related to all aspects of an engineering project. May provide support in the areas of leadership, development, presentation or overseeing development of, systems requirements, design, documentation, algorithms, software implementation, hardware layout, integration, installation, analysis, and peripheral interfaces. Generates, or oversees generation of, test and evaluation plans, and executes those plans when necessary. Exercises independent judgment, as well as a high level of analytical skill, in solving complex and unusual technical, administrative, and managerial problems. These services support the U.S. Coast Guard's over-arching life-cycle requirement for C5I systems aboard all Coast Guard cutters and boats.

Education, Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must possess an active Secret clearance
  • Education Associate Degree in Engineering or completion of USCG or DOD Technical Schools. Education and USCG/DOD Training may be substituted as follows:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of DOD military specifications and standards. Demonstrated Expert: Seven (7) years of concurrent, relevant experience in engineering, design, maintenance and installation of Command, Control and Communication Systems.
  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) equates to four (4) years' experience, including both shipboard and shore station, with four (4) of the following equipment/systems/programs or like systems:
    • Automatic Direction Finder (ADF), Doppler Speed Log (DSL), Encrypted Automatic Identification System (EAIS), Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), Electronic Chart System (ECS), VEGA, Electronic Navigation System (ENS), and Scalable Integrated Navigation System (SINS), and their integration with Machinery Plant Control and Monitoring Systems (MPCMS), Dynamic Positioning Systems (DPS), Automatic Identification System (AIS), and Track Controller/Autopilot systems.
  • Applied knowledge of the DHS/USCG C5ISC Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) process or similar engineering process.
  • Ability to development, deliver, and present SELC System Technical Engineering Reviews (SETR).
  • Applied knowledge of the Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) Engineering Change (EC), Time Compliant Technical Order (TCTO) process.
  • SME level System Sustainment and System Development support throughout the lifecycle of multiple electronic navigation systems and sensors.
  • Lifecycle risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and deliver Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) or Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) integration and engineering design solutions.
  • Develop and deliver engineering lifecycle related artifacts and activities in support of applicable systems.
  • Conduct hardware and software light off, testing, evaluation, and resolve system issues as required.
  • Coordinate and oversee First Article Test (FAT) and Engineering Test Assist efforts, in field and laboratory environments.
  • Ability to develop, review, or direct the development of documentation necessary to complete a EC/TCTO; documentation includes technical drawings, wiring details, engineering change, Time Critical Maintenance Action (TCMA), System Operation and Verification Test (SOVT) test procedures, Test and Evaluation (TEV) test plans and procedures, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to Installation Activities (IA) during system testing, prototype, and/or production events.
  • Provide on-site, phone, and email support for the purpose of technical corrective maintenance to resolve system casualties during prototype phase.
  • Expert level knowledge of shipboard electronic system installation and integration process and applicable Government standards.
  • Expert level knowledge of troubleshooting and corrective maintenance involving complex electronic navigation systems.
  • Expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications to draft reports, emails, presentations, create system architecture and integration diagrams, and possess a thorough knowledge of performing independent research.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

CONUS and OCONUS (i.e., HI, Guam, AK, Puerto Rico) travel (15-20%).

  • Office, lab, and industrial/shipboard working environments.
  • Work location is approx.. 60% remote/from home and 40% onsite (USCG Base Portsmouth, VA or remote USCG locations)
