Major Tasks and Responsibilities of Position

In your new role, you will be responsible for bringing machine learning solutions to life and deploying them on our deployment architecture.

• You are responsible for solving challenges affecting the entire machine learning lifecycle, particularly in areas such as distributed training in the cloud and data engineering.
• You will be responsible for keeping existing models up-to-date, monitoring model degradation, and designing autonomous retraining mechanisms.
• You are responsible for manipulating and harmonizing data (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) to accelerate our model building process.
• You will direct the definition and implementation of an efficient microservice architecture.
• You will advise colleagues from different areas on how to optimally use the existing infrastructure.
• You will supervise external AI engineers working for Covestro.
• You are responsible for ensuring compliance with standards and best practices of the machine learning lifecycle at Covestro.

Qualifications

• You have a university degree (preferably Diploma, Master's or PhD) in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Engineering, or a related field.
• You have more than 7 years' of experience in the Machine Learning Engineering environment, ideally in an international setting and with virtual teams.
• You have extensive experience in setting up Machine Learning architectures and are well-versed in technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless Computing, and the offerings of leading cloud providers.
• You have extensive experience with tools and frameworks such as Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, with SQL and noSQL databases, and with edge computing.
• Additionally, you have strong programming skills in Python and you have experience with programming/scripting languages such as Bash and R.
• You have experience managing and working together with external partners and suppliers.
• You have an entrepreneurial perspective and enjoy working on a variety of different challenges.
• You have an open-minded personality and are an approachable team player (m/f/d).
• You enjoy working in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.
• One of your core competencies is convincing, advising, and freely presenting to colleagues from different areas and hierarchies.
• Fluent English both written and spoken, as well as the willingness and ability to travel internationally, complete your profile.
• Travel to plants and different sites based on project needs.
