Civil Service or Non Civil Service: Civil Service

Job Summary: Supervises and participates in the full range of DMV activities, including the issuance of County business, and bicycle licenses; supervises and participates in the processing of applications and issuance of initial, renewal, and duplicate driver's and related licenses, permits, and civil identifications; may supervise and participate in the processing of motor vehicle accident and traffic conviction cases in compliance with provisions of the Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

  • Supervises and participates in the processing of applications for the initial registration and licensing of motor vehicles, for transfers of motor vehicle ownership, for issuance of duplicate certificates of ownership/registration, for annual renewal of motor vehicle registration certificates, and for licensing of businesses and bicycles.
  • Supervises and participates in the application, processing, and issuance of initial, renewal, and duplicates driver's and related licenses, permits, and civil identifications.
  • Supervises and participates in performing over-the-counter and cashiering work involved with the titling and registration of motor vehicles and financial transactions;
  • Assigns, supervises, reviews, and processes the full range of applications, requests, permits, licenses, registrations, certificates, and other forms and documents required for County services;
  • Assists and advises subordinates on procedural requirements and performs the full range of clerical and technical support activities involved in carrying out the day-to-day operations;
  • Oversees accounting of receipts and disbursements, deposits, and accounting of other revenues associated with collected fees;
  • Handles and expedites complaints, inquiries and problems that require follow up and research for resolution;
  • Advises subordinates in processing difficult situations and approves actions in cases where applications are not fully in accord with established procedures and requirements;
  • Plans work schedule and assists in developing and revising procedures and forms to be utilized;
  • Supervises the maintenance of office records and files;
  • Trains and orients new or other employees on work processes and procedures;
  • May testify in court and at hearings on motor vehicle ownership and licensing matters;
  • Keeps abreast of motor vehicle registration and licensing laws and practices, so as to be able to disseminate proper information to subordinates and to the general public;
  • Answers telephones and responds to written inquiries concerning licensing, motor vehicle titling and registration; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and three (3) years of work experience in motor vehicle registration, regulatory driver licensing or similar activities.

Work Shift/ Schedule: Monday-Friday (United States of America)
