Scope of Position:

  • Seeking a Process Engineer to drive operational excellence by analyzing, designing, and optimizing processes related to optical system assembly & test.
  • This position works very closely with manufacturing, safety, quality, and supply chain. The position will report to the Process Engineering Supervisor for A&T/MCR.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily production support to resolve process upsets.
  • Identify and lead process improvements to reduce cost, increase capacity, and extend process capability (variability, cycle-time reduction, yield improvement, rework elimination, complexity, and scrap reduction).
  • Lead new product introductions into the production system.
  • Engage the product development team during the development phase through informal and formal design reviews.
  • Develop process flow charts, work instructions, process sheets, checklists, forms, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team to quote new products.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to resolve customer questions.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to respond to customer complaints and returns.
  • Assess existing manufacturing capability gaps and recommend development activities.
  • Perform manufacturing tasks and activities, as trained, and in compliance with work instructions.
  • Responsible for housekeeping and autonomous maintenance of work area and equipment.
  • Participate in the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) of all new product development.
  • Participate in Manufacturing Risk Assessments and handle Risk Reduction activities.
  • Work with production teams to evaluate and troubleshoot product returns and advise on corrective actions.

Travel Requirements:

  • < 5%. Typical travel includes special training/networking opportunities and potential customer and vendor visits.

Hours of work:

  • First shift production hours, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Evening and weekend support as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 4-year degree in Engineering or Science discipline (Optical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial Materials, or related)
  • 3+ years of experience in process engineering (manufacturing environment preferred).
  • Must be able to effectively work with production groups and development engineering.
  • Must have strong, data-driven, problem-solving skills

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience implementing and improving process capability and control systems (SPC, Cp/Cpk).
  • Experience applying problem solving, statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies: Performance Excellence, DMAIC, Lean, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, data analysis, or others
  • Track record of cycle time reduction, yield improvement, and rework elimination.
  • Previous experience in technical manufacturing and process support.
  • Desire to learn new technologies and become a SME.
  • We are seeking an aptitude for precision hands-on mechanical skills, experience with assembling.
  • Dedicated and willing to work off hours to ensure product is completed on schedule
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Prioritize and multi-task
  • Performance excellence training and project leadership (Green Belt, Lean, or PQA experience).

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
