Process Engineer Intern

This internship is for Summer 2026. The Process Engineer Intern at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for learning and subsequently implementing the Cornerstone Production System methodology on multiple production lines and throughout different systems and processes. Reporting directly to the Continuous Improvement Manager, this role will be on-site in Rocky Mount, VA and will work closely with the operations team.

The intern will:

  • Design the ability to produce a quality product into the process.
  • Identify and analyze manufacturing problems to control and improve manufacturing.
  • Develop all necessary process and audit documentation (i.e. Visual Work Instructions, Standard Work Combination Table, Process Control Adherence Audit, etc.)
  • Assess existing processes for areas of improvement utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts (Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) Six Sigma, designed experiment techniques, capability studies, etc.
  • Design and/or source equipment for manufacturing processes; evaluate and recommend implementation of competitive technology.
  • Lead, where applicable, or work in conjunction with plant maintenance to ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained and updated consistent with short- and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Provide training, as required, to associates.
  • Lead, where applicable, or work in conjunction with Quality Assurance, to monitor and document quality standards.
  • Present capstone project as directed at the conclusion of the internship program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum travel required.

Qualifications:

The intern will need:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or higher
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, Inventor and/or Solid Works preferred.
