M365 Engineer

Core is a Microsoft Cloud Managed Service Partner, specialising in Microsoft 365 technology for people and businesses who want to realise modern workplace technology solutions to drive their business forward. We specialise in providing a wide range of services, solutions and software to optimise our clients' Microsoft investments.

The M365 Engineer will engage in delivering high-quality Microsoft 365 support to Core's Managed Services customers. The primary focus of the role is to onboard, maintain, and optimise cloud and hybrid deployments for Core's managed service M365 customer environments. This includes ensuring the smooth operation and security of services like Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Teams. This role will also handle advanced troubleshooting, resolving complex 3rd line issues escalated by 2nd line engineers, and serving as a key interface between 2nd line engineering levels and senior technical architects within Core.

There is a focus on delivering long-term solutions in place of temporary workarounds, and the methodical documentation, implementation, and maintenance of processes is a key part of this role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert support and configuration across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and Entra ID.
  • Develop automation scripts using PowerShell and MS Graph to drive service efficiencies.
  • Manage incidents, service requests, and changes using ConnectWise Manage and ServiceNow.
  • Monitor and improve Microsoft 365 security posture using Defender XDR, Sentinel, Purview, and Secure Score.
  • Manage and troubleshoot mail flow, connectors, and messaging hygiene settings within Microsoft 365; assist with Mimecast administration where needed.
  • Provide training sessions and handover workshops to internal Service Desk and 2nd Line teams.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles and operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to support continuous service improvement and innovation.
  • Ensure IT Service Management (ITSM) principles are followed, contributing to process improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience configuring, supporting, and optimizing core Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and Entra ID.
  • Proficient in PowerShell scripting (with basic MS Graph knowledge an advantage).
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 security and compliance tools including Defender XDR, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Purview, and Secure Score.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for collaboration and identity services.
  • Experience working with ITSM platforms, specifically ConnectWise Manage and ServiceNow.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Desirable But Not Essential

  • Experience performing Microsoft 365 data migrations, including tenant consolidations.
  • Familiarity with Mimecast administration for email security and routing.
  • Experience using ShareGate for SharePoint or OneDrive migrations.
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 native backup capabilities or third-party M365 backup solutions.
  • Exposure to device management technologies such as Intune and Autopilot.
  • Basic knowledge of Power Platform components (Power Automate, Power Apps).
  • Experience with Azure Automation services, including Runbooks and Logic Apps.
  • Familiarity with applying CIS Benchmarks for Microsoft 365 security hardening.
