As a construction engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring on-site construction activities and inspecting materials to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and contract documents. Your duties will include evaluating work related to excavations, drainage systems, road surfaces, and structural components; performing field measurements and calculations; preparing detailed inspection reports; and tracking contractor production rates. You will coordinate inspection phases with the contractor's superintendent and agency personnel, and support project procedures—particularly in developing documentation for the final estimate package. This role reports to both the Project Manager and Project Administrator and plays a critical part in maintaining construction quality, accuracy, and adherence to technical standards.

Salary Range: $75,000 – $110,000. All hours worked beyond 40 hours per week are compensated at time and a half. May be eligible to drive a Consor take-home truck, which includes a maintenance package and fuel card.

Employees may qualify for per diem when the project location is more than 50 miles from their "tax home".

Duties

  • Inspect, observe, and document construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and field measurements to verify completed work and support payment processes.
  • Maintain daily inspection reports detailing contractor labor, equipment usage, and material quantities received and verified.
  • Conduct on-site material testing and produce as-constructed sketches as required.
  • Assist with design-related tasks, technical analyses, and field duties for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Support the development of construction plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Coordinate material testing and inspection activities with contractors and client partners to ensure adherence to schedules and contractual obligations.
  • Aid in organizing tasks and responsibilities for field inspection personnel.
  • Participate in the review and assessment of change order logs, requests for information (RFIs), and cost proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 0-5 years of construction inspection experience (ODOT preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications and pass appropriate qualification tests within specified time frames.
  • This field position primarily operates in outdoor environments, which may include exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
  • Physical demands may include frequent talking, hearing, standing, moving, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, balancing, coordination, and occasional sitting or operating a company vehicle.
