South Carolina Bridge Connections Academy (SCBCA) is a tuition-free, full-time alternative virtual public school for students in grades 9-12 located throughout the state of South Carolina. The school operates in partnership with the Charter Institute at Erskine. SCBCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.
Position Summary
Working from your home office, the 12-month Coordinator of Counseling Services will collaborate closely with the School Leader and Manager of Counseling Services to support at-risk students in grades 9-12. They will assist students and parents in understanding and meeting graduation requirements, course selection, scheduling, and crisis intervention, while also providing direction to staff.
This leadership position will support teachers in an alternative learning environment by ensuring robust systems of accountability are in place. This includes providing oversight and weekly monitoring of student indicators such as assignment submission, platform activity, and progress toward pacing targets, as well as identifying educational gaps. Attendance and participation tracking will be conducted in accordance with state-specific requirements.
An emphasis will be placed on building micro communities within the school to foster belonging, connection and delivering wraparound support to help each student thrive. Individualized student check-ins will be conducted regularly to assess academic, behavioral, and social progress. Through these efforts, the Coordinator of Counseling will uphold a structured, supportive environment that encourages student success, retention, and readiness for life after graduation.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Provide individualized academic counseling and engage families in partnership to improve engagement, retention, and student outcomes.
- Lead cross-functional case management for at-risk/crisis students; coordinate interventions, referrals, and required reporting.
- Deliver counseling programming (academic, social-emotional, and college/career) and manage individual graduation plans (IGP) aligned to state requirements.
- Maintain official student records including transcript entry and document enrollment transitions/withdrawals and barriers to completion.
- Lead crisis prevention/response and connect families to school/community resources, ensuring timely reporting and referrals per policy.
- Develop systems to monitor attendance, participation, pacing, and performance; intervene early and support teachers in onboarding and closing student learning gaps.
- Deliver student readiness supports (SAT/ACT/ASVAB and college/career preparation), including needed accommodations/strategies.
- Provide staff training and consultation on identifying and supporting students in alternative/adaptive learning settings.
- Assist with graduation and other key student milestones in partnership with school teams.
- Lead cross-functional case management with teachers to identify and support at-risk or crisis students.
- Coordinate state assessment logistics, participation tracking, test-site contracts, and accommodations.
Requirements
- 3+ years of previous counseling experience at an accredited public or private school; previous leadership roles preferred
- South Carolina School Counseling Credential required
- Master's degree in Counseling, Educational Leadership or related fields
- This is a 12-month position
- Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products)
- PowerSchool and/or Edmentum experience preferred
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Must be able to use a personal electronic device for two-step authentication and communication.
