In-Home Support Specialist

Our in-home support specialists are committed to facilitating, modeling, and building skills that will lead to the optimal independence of the people we support. Work location: New london, ct. Essential functions include daily activities such as meal preparation and planning, personal care, facilitating community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community, providing transportation to recreational and community activities, and supporting therapeutic and behavioral plans.

Expectations include demonstrating a positive work ethic, working with limited supervision, advocating for and protecting participants' rights in accordance with arc policies and procedures, treating all individuals in an age-appropriate manner with respect and dignity, maintaining a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public, and outside representatives, working with a spirit of cooperation with all departments, carrying out all job responsibilities in a professional manner, attending all agency staff meetings and training sessions, maintaining attendance, adhering to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness, keeping supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity, serving as a positive and appropriate role model for program participants, providing advocacy for participants based on their personal choice and their individual plan, developing and maintaining positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers, responding to the need of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner, possessing a valid driver's license, privately owned vehicle, and evidence of insurance.

Minimum qualifications include prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred, the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health, a valid driver's license, a high school diploma or ged, and basic computer aptitude and the ability to speak/write in english.
